I like both. Surviving for me is the most “auto-pilot” sounding album.

really, I think it just speaks to how well they can create, even on auto-pilot.

I’ve grown to really enjoy Invented, but ever song is structured the same IIRC.

    Verse chorus verse?

How in the world people who love Disintegration never sing the praises of Cut, I’ll never understand.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

In Zach's interview they talk about the Stay On My Side Tonight EP a lot so I'm revisiting it. The extended bridge in Closer is a one of many god-tier moments in their catalog.

More like verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instrumental bridge (almost all guitar solos), chorus.

Which isn’t a bad thing on its own. But it stuck out to me on early listens that it never deviates from that IIRC.

none of their records feel like autopilot to me tbh

Oh. I was joking, but that's really what you meant, huh.

I feel like Thrice is going through similar situation on wanting to take their time instead of forcing an album every 2- 3 years. My favorite Jimmy albums were Chase this light and prior but i'm excited to see what they have been inspired to write.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

if they were on autopilot writing the title track of Invented then this is gonna be the greatest album of all time

Damage is fine but ultimately it made them take a break and bless us with Integrity Blues :)

For me Surviving is juuuust behind Integrity Blues in the best post-Futures release. If it were a couple of tracks longer it would be no 1. With 10 songs and 30 odd minutes, the 3/4 that are weaker bring the average down due to the short length.

Recommit is the closest they ever returned to a Clarity-style melody. Congratulations rocks harder than possibly anything in their catalogue and is a treat for the full 6 minutes. The emphasis on the straight ahead rock vibe throughout this does give it its own space in their catalogue especially versus the 2007 to 2013 period.

  15. Guess we should’ve known all along that after they broke the every three years pattern they would of course just take an extra three years on top of that to do this one

Surviving being over five years old is messing with my head though
