the phrase "arab spring" is a western media phrase. it itself was not a CIA op.

  4. No, pretty clear that there were, especially in the first year or two, a lot of genuine popular uprisings. At least a couple of the 'revolutionary' governments that came out of it were also not at all what the US would've wanted, most notably the Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt that was overthrown by a military dictator with American support. Tunisia was similar, except the MB affiliated party was much less popular and so its overthrow needed less American help.

Both of these ended up pretty status quo at the end of the decade compared to the start, Egypt led by a comprador for "Israel" and the US and Tunisia led by a nominally anti-zionist elected strongman that also desires integration into the western economic oarder, this time somewhat more Islamist.

Libya and Syria both start with anti-zionist anti-American regimes end up in brutal civil wars where the opposition is generally much more radical islamists than the MB that was intolerable in Egypt, but gets American support. For obvious reasons. Libya was probably the least organic protest movement of the bunch, but there was definitely some unrest especially among the tribes. It's always been a weird state.

But Syria definitely also had some legitimate protestests to start. The non-organic part in Syria is the power and longevity of the Salafist militia groups, the FSA/Idlib Government etc. Obviously the anti-American government is part of the reason those groups were so strongly supported there, but there's also the closeness of the regime to Iran (which is not something you'd get from eg MB gvmts) and, I think underratedly, it's geography. Bordering Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, AND Israel is not a very fun "neighborhood." A huge amount of the ISIS and FSA in Syria fighters were and have been foreign fighters, at least half usually, sometimes 2/3rds. From all over, but especially Iraq.

He can’t be that dumb. The “establishment” is what it is because it’s beholden to the rich and corporate class. All Trump is doing is cutting out the middle man and putting billionaires directly in power. It’s just lifting the veil, it’s not a thumb in the eye of the establishment at all
