TCM is always a great watch for me because I think about how cool it is to make that movie and put it out in the 70s. And how shocking those first kills must have been and the dinner scene and everything. I would never feel that way with the remake.
I saw TCM2 for the first time this year and I just love how they pretty much turned everything on its head and made a fun comedy gore out of it.

  2. I didn’t know there was a more recent one. I watched the original and the 2000s one the same day, and I’ve regretted it ever since. Haha. The original is fantastic though. That’s all I know.

    hate my favorite band

Like @xkaylinh said, it’s very heavy handed but I feel like it was overly hated. The original is obviously actually good, but people acted like the newest one was the worst movie ever. How can someone even hate a movie with Imogen Poots in it?

Spending this lovely morning watching Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Absolutely one of my favorites.

My wife and I hosted a Halloween party last night, so I finally got the opportunity to use the projector and host a mini-marathon in the backyard. The party was mainly inside, but some people were mainly concerned with the movies, haha.

I chose Halloween 4, Nightmare 3, and Friday the 13th Part 2. I had them all on a single video file, and also spliced in a ton of 80’s and 90’s Halloween commercials between the films themselves, which everyone loved. I also didn’t tell anyone the theme, but if they guessed it they got a prize (I honored both “Slasher Sequels in Descending Order” and “Best Sequel of the Big Three Slashers.”) But the consensus favorite was pretty easily Halloween 4, although several people said they were surprised how solid Friday the 13th Part 2 was.

Looking forward to next year and doing a more adventurous slate, but this was a fun kickoff!

The stuff I disliked before (jump scares, soundtrack, rotating camera, fake out endings) weren't as grating this time. Love Sosie Bacon in this, underrated nepo baby

    Smile 2
Love Naomi Scott in this. I'm sensing a trend haha. I didn't find Skye that unlikable. I think the film did a good job of juggling the themes of grief and trauma that carried over from the first film and also the isolation of fame and the difficulty of recovering from substance abuse. And, again, the things I initially disliked about the first film the first time weren't annoying in the sequel, I guess I just accepted those parts of the series. The ending was a bit predictable, especially with how y'all were trying to talk about it without giving anything away haha, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I really liked this, almost as much as Talk to Me, so it's mindblowing that this isn't my favorite horror film this year, it's just been banger after banger. I hope this does well enough among mainstream audiences that we get the next entry it set up, it's so exciting to witness the rise of a new horror franchise

Our next two local movie club movies will be Buffy the Vampire Slayer (haven’t seen) this week for a special Halloween edition, and then in November they’re doing Tetsuo The Iron Man (have seen). I love this time of year!!!

There's only a few movies that actually disturbed me and Sinister was one of them.

That and VHS 1 and 2 lol.

watched V/H/S/2 tonight and man, that was NOT good. no offense to anyone who enjoyed it, but i was relatively bored for the first half of it, with the two most intriguing shorts (the last two) either feeling slightly derivative or not as fleshed out as they could've been (the technical execution of Safe Haven - the best of the bunch - was great and left me on the edge of my seat, but it felt lacking with some of its story).

Watched That’s A Bad Idea’s YouTube short “Milk & Serial” tonight. Not entirely sure why some of the internet was going nuts about it, but it’s a fun watch! I really enjoy their comedy so it’s fun to see them being scared or menacing. Definitely some solid acting in there and the narrative was interesting to watch unfold.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

only watched this for the first time a couple weeks back and it's so fucking good. everyone talks about the ending but the pervasive sense of dread throughout the whole thing is even more unsettling. also Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams had unreal chemistry

I liked Carved, it was pretty fun, although like a beat too long. Which is funny to say about a 90 minute movie.

Agreed. The practical effects on the scene on the lawn with the actual bodies emerging from the pods was so awesome too. Regarding the two leads' chemistry, it actually reminded me of Tom Atkins and Stacey Nelkin in Halloween 3. Not comparing the two films by any means but a similar kind of vibe in terms of plot and characters.

  23. Did Freddy's Dead last night and I'm kind of surprised it doesn't have a cult following, Englund is basically pulling double-duty as proto-Art the Clown but also doing Austin Powers bits lol it really splits the difference between the mean-spiritedness of The Dream Child and the goofiness of The Dream Master. Not a good movie, but a fun one, and I absolutely have a soft spot for how bonkers it is

I hate this movie so much haha. Just so obnoxious and unpleasant to watch, and the ending is laugh out loud bad and not in a good way for me. Tough race between this and Halloween Resurrection for worst big slasher sequel.
