Being nitpicky here but anyone else feel the song titles on most of OMT and this are too generic? Most are just phrases and don't stand out as much as previous ones like Asthenia, Waggy, Natives, Stockholm Syndrome, Dumpweed, etc etc

 

Find most of these new songs kind of boring sadly. They are fine but didn't come away wanting to listen to any of them on repeat

 

That's how I view Angels And Airwaves... If it wasn't Tom who was the singer in the band then I wouldn't really be into AvA (or really tried them at all) that being said, I do like how the Rubin brothers have helped Tom out with his music.

He was really stuck in a rut during the L)VE era.

 

Yeah, I can't get into these new songs as much as I want to. There's some decent parts, but I dunno. As a whole the songs just aren't that good. It just feels like they were thrown together quickly and could use more work and crafting. They need that 4th man producer, in my opinion.

Waiting for tomorrow to dive into the takes. Psyched to hit play. From the clips I heard it seems like these were intentionally loosely recorded songs that aren’t meant to be top tier singles, but more them putting out b sides and new songs without a lot of overthinking or overkill on fully polished songs. I like that energy. Gives me DED vibes but with more heart.

On Monday I will appreciate your "ok I love this song now" post a lot.

Also, very much looking forward to spinning these tomorrow. Been so swamped with work/moving, I haven't had time with any music for a while and this will be a fun moving soundtrack I hope.

 

I think most people enjoy every song on here but are just bothered more by specific parts here and there that maybe could have been tweaked a bit. I like every track on the deluxe, but there are a few small things holding a handful of them back. Not bad for a near 30-song album.

 

It's definitely fun, that's something blink will never get wrong. I will for sure have a post like that on Monday.

 

I mean this is how every album release and thread works no? Blink shouldn't be singled out because of its status on here. First impressions are always fun to read, and it's also interesting seeing people change their minds or not over multiple listens.

 

First impressions feel different to me than the album isn’t even officially out and being called “unnecessary” (or some variation of) - I think I’ve said it before or maybe it was Craig - but I think so much music discussion gets boiled down to these quick takes and dismissed or called a flop and we’re on to the next thing so fast. I included an lol face cause I was joking around about it, people can say whatever they want, but I do find it funny how fast we go to the most extreme “best songs since” or “literally the worst shit that shouldn’t have been made” in the span of minutes after release. Just not how my brain processes music.

 

Oh I totally get it. I can't even say I'm good with avoiding making takes like these because it isn't easy to resist the impulse to be "first", which leads to premature judgements instead of letting things simmer for a bit. I don't know if it's a byproduct of the times we live in. I don't remember if it was the same ten years ago or before social media was as rampant as it is today.

I drove across the country in a U-Haul when California came out to a dream job at the time. Releases cemented in moments in time rule.

 

In my defense I waited til I heard the full songs to call the first two songs definitely b-sides lol

 

the best part is that they are literally b-sides

 

Hard stances after hitting play once is silly imo. I think a lot of the takes are more excitement for new music than intentionally critical “thanks I hate it” vibes.

Enjoying playing through the Skilba records in preparation. I haven’t revisited them much since OMT and with the edge off having Tom back they’re a really fun era in the blink legacy .

 

Aren’t Can’t Go Back and Everyone Everywhere newly recorded songs, as opposed to left over songs from the previous sessions?
