Sold more than OMT in its first week, too. Not a dig at OMT, by the way!

  2. Enema: 109 vs OMT: 125?

But it is wild how 109k “only” got you to #9 back in the day!

Pretty funny stacking the LA Times piece up to the OLOC podcast. Seems like Travis went all in on chatting with his bud rather than making his scheduled calls for the Times. The pod is awesome I still have an hour left, but its a lot of retreading old stuff more personally and friends chatting with plenty of good anecdotes. It's cool they have a sit-down part and then travis calls in during the europe tour before singles dropped, after, and then one from just a couple of days ago. Very worth the listen. Not as organized as the Zane interview but lots of nuggets throughout.

Yeah, there are definitely some skippable parts since the interview takes place over the course of like four different sessions and they start talking about the same stuff over again lol. But still fun though, like you said.

I thought it was interesting when he talked about "Fell In Love". It makes sense in hindsight, but I would not have assumed it was a Travis-led song as much as it seems to be.

The more you hear him talk about this record, it's clear that he was leading the charge from the beginning and is pretty responsible for blink having the work ethic to grind out this whole thing. It wasn't so much like he didn't want anyone else producing the record but more so that he was just so passionate about working on it that he just fell into the producer role naturally. Crazy how he's more or less become the band leader lol.

  12. New interview with a dude who worked with Blink in the early 90s, pre and post-Cheshire Cat.

Only about 20 minutes into it but Rob mentions he has a cassette tape Tom gave him of songs blink recorded/demoed that have never been done before but he would want to talk to Tom and Mark first to see what they wanted him to do with it. I wonder if that’s the Ponway High Demo tape or it could be 21 Days tape.

  14. Oh yeah! It would be really interesting to actually see it. I think there will be photos/video clips from the interview on 182 News instagram page soon, so that may be able to answer the question.

Random, but: I had no idea Tom was 6’4”

I just always assumed he (and Mark) were like 6’ or shorter after all these years. Whoa.

Been on a blink-182 listening streak lately. Went back to California for the first time in a while. I'm a little torn. I like most of the album, but it's not the same without Tom. Including Skiba was cool, but they should've released the music from that era under a different name (and not +44). I get why they went with blink-182 though.

Anyway, here's my California tier list:

    GREAT
    Cynical
    Bored to Death
    Left Alone
    San Diego

    GOOD
    Rabbit Hole
    The Only Thing That Matters

    DECENT
    She's Out of Her Mind
    Los Angeles
California (would've been better without the na-na-na bridge)

    FILLER
    Sober
    No Future
Home Is Such a Lonely Place
    Kings of the Weekend
    Teenage Satellites

    UNNECESSARY
Built This Pool (really catchy and one of their best joke songs, but doesn't need to exist)
    Brohemian Rhapsody

To be fair, a lot of things are “highest grossing ever” now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean what it implies. There’s a lot of factors that contribute to that. But yeah they’re obviously doing great.

Too many na-na-na's. I can see how some people might like it though.

The farther we get from the skiba era the more fondly people will look on it IMO. I haven't listened to any non OMT records since it came ou, but I look forward to the eventual play through on the Skiba albums.

At the same time, it’s gonna be hard to feel nostalgic for something that didn’t come out when you were a teenager. I like California, but it was never gonna be an album that hit for me in the same way their early stuff did, because I didn’t grow up with it.

California is good. Nine is great. Do I think OMT is better? Sure. But I enjoy them all.

I put ONE MORE TIME... over NINE, but just barely tbh. This one is amazing and finally brings me back to blink's glory days, but I also loved NINE quite a bit for what it was. Really different records but I've gotten tons of enjoyment out of both.
