Thinking about it now I would actually say the hugely popular mass appeal Yellowstone has is probably closest to the appeal peak Walking Dead had. In terms of being a kind of rural focused very mature yet unpretentious basic cable primetime soap at its core.

Being on dating apps in Kansas City, a lot of women love two things: “Yellowstone” and Morgan Wallen.

 

Honestly, one reason I refuse to get into Yellowstone is because it seems to be all the right-wing nuts/hillbillies who are the biggest fans of the show.

Maybe I'm completely off-base, but that's the feeling I get - at least around my area.

 

Choosing not to even give a piece of entertainment a chance because people whose politics you don't like enjoy it sounds like a miserable way to live your life

Guess what? Some reactionary dumb shows are actually pretty fun and entertaining.

 

I’m very liberal, yet I really enjoy the show. And you could even argue the show lately has gone kind of “woke”, which has actually led to a bit of negative reaction among right wing nutters

I saw someone on TikTok accuse it of being woke because they introduced a gay character. But there was no way I was gonna look further into that.

There's way too much stuff out there to not be picky. I don't think there's an inherently wrong way to navigate it all.

 

I didn't mean it's fully "woke", but they've certainly introduced elements that lean in that direction (like Costner's assistant being gay and the show making nothing of it)
