It's gonna be at least 4 days from what I've been hearing. Could be longer if the GOP tries their usual BS.

mail ballot states will be called the same night, the states that matter won't be called for several days. everywhere should have mail ballot voting so we can pre-count ballots leading up to election day and then have it all over that night.

Anecdotally speaking, I've seen far, far fewer Trump yard signs in rural Indiana and Illinois compared to 2016. I remember 2016 Trump signs well because they were just so prevalent that even local businesses were proudly displaying them. I don't believe this signals any kind of shift in favor of Harris, even though I see her signs with surprising regularity. Rather, I think there's just a bit less open enthusiasm surrounding him.

Such less hassle too. Like, here in California, I get emails about the status of my ballot and when it's accepted. Just so quickly done and over with.

But making it easy to vote is unamerican or something i dunno

I am expecting to wake up the following morning and at least 2-3 swing states will not have called their respective winner.

  10. I will be shocked if Harris wins.

Based on the polls I see and the weighting I do not think matches the electorate, and just my reading of my liberal friends that were very pro Biden/anti-Trump in 2016. There is no excitement to vote for Harris, no actual articulation of an anti-Trump position. No real reason to vote for her and lots of reason to not vote for her or abstain completely. At this point in 2016 I saw many friends posting about the election, why it mattered, etc., and I see virtually nothing right now.

Easily the worst ran campaign I've ever seen, even if by some miracle she pulls out an EC victory.

I expect Trump electors to do some bullshit, and I would not be shocked if the SC gives him a victory even if he does not win, and the country collectively shrugs. What is the saying, "most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given"?

Basically, shocked if she wins, but would be absolutely shell-shocked if Harris is ever sworn in as President.

Didn't have to be this way.

PA has mail ballots but the Repub legislature won't approve a law allowing them to be counted or even organized before the election, so they can't start being counted until the polls close in PA. So we won't know PA day of since it's so close.

Nevada as we know also can take a bit to count.

    Here's a good list:
When states can begin processing and counting absentee/mail-in ballots, 2024

I feel pretty similar. And unfortunately, I know you don’t have all the answers, but I am curious what is to be done in the case of a Trump victory?

Like, I know we “survived” 2016, but… this one feels different.

I believe under our current system that things tend to get worse but only in the most boring way, so my gut still tells me Harris wins through no merit of her own.

I'm most interested to see how long it will be before Vance is president. I'm guessing within two years.

Pretty sure Harris loses Michigan but still wins (barely) and learns nothing. Then in four years she’ll do none of the even meager things she promised and loses reelection by a landslide.

I still am somewhat hopeful that Trump eventually lashes out against Vance and buries his career like he has done to a bunch of other people. But the democrats do not appear to be building a party capable of beating the Vances of the world long-term.

Anecdotally, I'm seeing drastically fewer Trump signs this year than I did in 2020 or 2016. Like, it's almost gotten to a point where the only Trump signs you see are the crazies that put up multiple flags, signs, etc. Same goes for vehicles for Trump stickers/signage, etc.

I'm not sure the people actively choosing not to openly support him have been alienated from voting from him altogether, or if they're just being quieter about it. I suspect the latter. Anyway, we (Maine) don't really matter anyway.
