Putting any Brand New album above TDAG is probably one of the most confusing music opinions I've heard haha

I don't really even listen to BN anymore, it's just that TDAG was "that" album for me, if you know what I mean. It was extremely influential and formative to my tastes, and I owe a lot to that record. It's honestly a large part of the reason I was able to make it out of a very difficult time in my life and for that I will always hold it dear. So basically it would be pointless for me to try and uphold any semblance of objectivity for that album because my emotions completely override everything else.

This is about how I feel about it, I think. I honestly very rarely play it from beginning to end anymore (once a year at best probably for the past couple years), and if I do want to listen to a whole BN release I'm more likely to reach for Daisy or the demos, but even still I'd consider it their best and one of my top 5 favorite albums for basically the same reasons you described.

Still confused about people laughing at Jesse's lyrics as if Andy doesn't have a ton of lame and cheesy ones

Andy doesn't have "a ton" or really any imo but this discussion is only going to end in hurt feelings so it's no biggie

Why would it hurt anyone's feelings to discuss bad lyrics?

i just meant that both of these albums mean a lot to a lot of people, i went too far earlier mocking Jesses lyrics when im sure someone else finds them very endearing and pertinent, so id rather not turn this thread into a pissing contest of who has the biggest clunkers. But thats just me, carry on.

METN is Manchester's TDAG. Just solid all around, some of the best songs they've written. I enjoy I'm Like A Virgin more and Simple Math lacks a sense of passion to me, sounds too polished without the crunch/raw emotion twists and turns I like from Manchester.

TDAG is their best album and it isn't even close. Daisy is their worst or second worst album, and that isn't even close. Daisy's great, you might enjoy it most, but there's no plausible objective way to say it's better musically or lyrically than Deja or TDAG.

Daisy is better than Deja in every way

Come on, Deja revolutionized an entire genre of music at the time. Daisy's lyrics are sometimes powerful, sometimes lazy. I get that Deja doesn't hold up in the same way Daisy does, but also Daisy has 3-5 good songs and the rest just sound like the same noise.

I couldn't care less if Deja "revolutionized an entire genre of music at the time." I think Daisy has far more interesting things going on than Deja does from a musical standpoint and from a production standpoint. As far as lyrics go, I'm not that concerned. I've never been fascinated by Jesse as a lyricist at any point in my life. But if you wanted to call certain lyrics on Daisy lazy, then you can find plenty on Deja as well: "Hope you come down with something that they can't diagnose or don't have a cure for" ... "Is this the way a toy feels when its batteries run dry." And if you think the rest of Daisy sounds like the same noise outside of 3-5 songs, then we must be listening to two completely different albums.

Even the band themselves said what I said. Those lyrics struck me when I heard them, I don't know. Neither of us will convince the other lol. If you don't listen to BN for lyrics, then sure Daisy might be the best.

I also don't really care what the band says about Daisy. I like Daisy. If I listened to bands' opinions on their own work (which must be a wildly different mindset than that of a fan's) then I guess I'd be listening to a lot more of Deftones' early nu-metal music and a lot less of the S/T and Saturday Night Wrist, which are far more interesting and enjoyable records for me.

Actually, there's no objective way to say that any record is better than any other record, considering these are all matters of opinion. I find Daisy to be the superior album considering it's far less calculated and more varied than TDAG, but that doesn't mean I don't understand why someone might insist YFW is their best work. At the end of the day: it doesn't matter, so it's probably not a good look to get all holier-than-thou over someone's opinion.
