And after the wild chase had lasted some minutes, we succeeded in turning into a side street and there running through an alley – a back yard between two streets – whence we came behind the policemen who lost the trail. Now we were safe. They did not have our description and we arrived at our homes without further adventures."

So basically... a lot of my conversations in the hostel was men bashing American Imperialism and shit.

Aussie: Yeah, I visited the US and I learned American exceptionalism is a thing.

Me: Bullshit... total fucking bullshit.

I did make fun of a couple of Canadians tho. They kindly smiled and nodded.

 

Tell us more, I love hearing what people from other countries think about the US. My Indian coworker went OFF on Trump/Congress the other day when we were on our way to lunch and it was pretty great.

 

I hate the word Hispanic and I don't even know if it's just me it just doesn't fucking making sense to me as an ethnic grouping. Like we don't group the French, Haitians, and people from Nigeria into a French speaking ethnic group, why are Cubans, Mexicans, and the Spanish all in one dumb ass group?

Heads up, if you're referring to me (for future reference) I'd prefer latino/latinx

 

If it interests you, I think the general opinion of US politics in the UK (aside from that Trump is just the biggest idiot/sociopath to ever have existed) is just disbelief at how much of a role money plays in politics and how much of a disconnect there is between congressmen and public interest. It's literally the biggest thing a lot of us are rallying against.

 

This seems so obvious when you say it, but I did not consider it until you said it.

 

for some added perspective on Latinos, we don't know what's up with systemic racism either. although societal racism is a thing in those countries, the racism isn't as enjoined to the political system and the start of those countries. (i'm not saying racism isn't a thing in latin america, i'm saying American institutional racism is WAY bigger and WAY further reaching than, say, racism in Cuba)

 

see, that's why I find it kind of ridiculous! Because nobody ever says Hispanic and thinks Spain, you think what Latinos are. Apparently (from what Google tells me), Hispanic is more eastern, Latino is more western. Yet another reason that Latinx unity is difficult.

 

I think White people are very ignorant about other cultures is just a good catchall explanation

Shoooo everyone needs to watch 'Blood on the Mountain.' It's streaming on Netflix and is a good intro to the political and economic atmospheres that have turned states like West Virginia into "Trump Country".

It really highlights why "don't do political work in those states" arguments come across as either completely heartless or completely ignorant.

OH man a former student's twitter popped up on my who to follow....she's gotta be 20-21 by now, and all her shit is like, shit about chakra's and anti vax and conspiracy...clicked her likes and there was at least one meme about calling crystals stones and a whole bunch about astrology etc.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that if she voted last year, it was for Jill Stein lol
