I'm worried about his comments that the album is inspired by a world that could elect Trump president and these serious social issues. I'm open to such an album, but I don't think Max has a proper understanding of these things to make an entire album about them. "Rebel Rebel" and "Walk on the Wild Side" are one thing, so is "Born in the USA." I'm worried it's going to be the most one-sided shallow interpretation of American issues that Max doesn't understand. I don't either. I'm all for political albums and criticizing Trump (duh), or any other political figure for that matter. I just see Max put his foot in his mouth on Twitter so many times about these things and feel like he's ready to jump head-first into an album of his childish pseudo-political tweets.

A lot of Max's best songs pre-IARB are super political. I don't think he's going to intricately sing about Trump, I think he's going to address the psychological mood of everything. I mean are you calling Max dumb? I think he has a way with making complex ideas simple. Sometimes he's corny, sometimes that works and sometimes that doesn't.

Until The Bombs, Signal The Rifleman, Presidential Suite are pretty much some of my fav songs.

I definitely agree about the early songs, and honestly wish he wrote more songs like that today. I just think that he makes an ass of himself sometimes, O.K., kind of a lot lately and doesn't know what he's talking about politically sometimes. I don't mind if he writes songs about Trump, though I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot of anti-Trump songs (especially from the punk/pop-punk crowd) for the next few years. I just fear we'll get an album full of shit like his Darth Vader is sexist/racist miscommunication with some other dudes on Twitter or an album stuffed to the brim with his favorite logical fallacy (the strawman).

""I'm more impressed by people who have day jobs and have kids and a hobby," he said by phone Monday. "In reality, today's the first day of tour, which should be the most stressful thing, but I'm still sitting around listening to music and about to go on stage to play music for a bunch of kids who like our band. And writing comic books? Come on. It's a 12-year-old's dream. I think I've been dealt a really easy card.""
I had to chuckle at this because it's very true.

This is from years ago. Sometime 2015 on the Hebrews tour with a string section.

Oh ok that makes me feel better just because I know he specifically addressed this situation and apologized. Doesn't make it a good thing, but I'd be much more concerned if this was something that had happened again recently.

I was at this show. It was in 2015 in Virginia. I drove 5 hours for it and was super upset when this all happened. It was heartbreaking and awful to watch. He barely sang the entire time, could hardly stand up, and a bunch of songs from the setlist weren't played because finally eventually the rest of the band just took him offstage (after he was just lying on the stage almost passing out).

Yeah I remember that video. I genuinely thought something was very wrong with him. It's seems he's rebounded a bit live? I haven't heard any complaints since.

When I was them in 2009 they were on fire.

Yeah, I saw him in late 2014 and he was nowhere near this bad at all. He just looked really out of shape. I've been to the NorVa and seen them 3 times specifically there over the years (in 06, 07, 09) and I would of felt the same way. Holy crap. I had seen the puking vid and thought maybe that's the worst it's been, but apparently not. What was the crowd like? They seemed enthusiastic but worried.

  13. seeing that video made me never want to pay to see them again because i didn't want to 1. waste my money and 2. feel super bummed and sad for him.

80% of the crowd was worried and concerned. The other 20% was angry and yelling and left. A lot of people asked for money back and I even saw some people trying to return merch. To be honest when Max first came out I thought he had a concussion- because as he walked out he tripped and fell and I thought that was why he was acting so weird....but quickly realized he was beyond drunk.

This makes me really mad that people pay so much attention to one mistake. I've seen them about 10 times, Max was amazing, grateful, energetic each time.

He apologized. He got drunk. We all have a bad day at work. His live career doesn't deserve to be judged by that.

I get what you're saying, and every time I've seen SA/Max, it's been fantastic... but if the rest of us defined "a bad day at work" as getting shitfaced and lying on the floor, we would no longer have a job to have a bad day at. Kinda the bare minimum expectation for anyone who does anything.

I feel like we should definitely bring it up every few pages and talk about how we hope he isn't too wasted whenever we see him play because it's not a tired discussion at all

I guess we should fire and not let all the musicians/rock stars perform who ever got drunk and looked like fools on stage. /s

Say Anything just finished their set in Chicago. Can confirm: there's no reason to worry about coming to their show. Max was great and the band was great. I had an amazing time.

Not at all what I said. If I pay for a ticket to something, the performers should be able to stand. Some things are that simple.

Also you can't fire a musician who is self-employed.

It's cool man we have a different opinion. I just think people make mistakes sometimes. I don't think a rock star getting drunk and sick at 10 pm is comparable to an office worker showing up drunk and sick at 8 am. It was a terrible thing, not arguing that. Anyone's choice can be not be a fan anymore. It's a kind of sort of free country right? He apologized. What else can be done. Also, I was making a joke. Agree to disagree. Can we just talk about the millions of other things about Max, the band and the music?

Saw Say Anything on Saturday and they didn't play a single IDTII song. haha I was actually sort of looking forward to hearing songs from that live. It was a good show anyway though.
