    Doing fine. Prestigious

All this M Night talk did cause me to rewatch Unbreakable. So good. I still haven't seen Split. I don't anticipate the recent spoilers to bother me. But I do wish I would have seen the movie before all this came out and actually had the surprise. I think I would have liked it, because I love those types of things.

Man, I love The Mist. I've been watching a ton of Stephen King movies because my lady hasn't seen any of them. Misery, IT, The Shining, but I feel like the end of The Mist might be too much for her.

Train to Busan was so fundamentally solid, leave it to SK to reinvigorate my faith in the zombie subgenre. it didn't do anything crazy inventive or adventurous, it just actively thought about what its conflict generated on both a macro and micro level and continually came up with smart, self-consistent, and unique ways to resolve that conflict. and, of course, the economic commentary was great. zombies truly are the monster of the capitalists.

Watched The Void last night. Enjoyed it but I have a key gripe

I think they blew their load too early by having the big monster in act 1. Should have let the cult people with knives cause enough tension for the time being, and save the monster so that act 3 had more impact, instead of it being something we've seen already.

I think there is something wrong with me, or I'm just getting annoyed with horror movies/being too picky.

I watched Get Out yesterday and besides a few moments, I thought it was just alright. We've seen the initial concept before - brainwashing but then things went a bit further with partial brain transplanting.
No faults with the acting, with any character, and there was humor where needed, but my biggest gripe has to do with subtlety, and how it lacked from Get Out. A fair amount of horror has a political/social message or agenda, George Romero knows this probably best, but I don't need it shoved down my throat.

Right. Looks more thriller/action from what I've seen.

I think I was able to appreciate it knowing beforehand that Jordan Peele was heavily influenced by The Stepford Wives and Night of the Living Dead by having a black protagonist. I didn't think it was overly political (The Purge movies were more obvious in its message) but after I saw Get Out I came across a page pointing out all the easter eggs and metaphors audiences probably missed in the movie, which made me appreciate the movie more.

Do you have a link to that page?

I have no issue with a main character being black; and I'd call this more of a social commentary rather than political, obviously. I just don't like the heavy-handedness of any kind in movies. For example, and it's a spoiler...

the cop scene had literally nothing to do with the rest of the movie, other than it was the first indication of "the white people in this area have a thing against black people." That's fine, we've seen this scenario in many movies across all genres and we all know it's true in real life as well, in some areas, some times.

What I don't understand, which is also my biggest problem, is why black people? We're given a very stereotypical reasoning - bigger, stronger, faster, essentially. But seriously, why, after this insane procedure was perfected, would the seemingly only suitable "donor" be a black man? I mean, other than the obvious "racial stuff sells" in Hollywood scripts, why not just use any damn person? The underlying message is that black men are "easily disposable" in today's America, I guess, at least that's the way I absorbed Peele's attempt at subtext.

I don't know how John Russo and George Romero were received when Night of The Living Dead was released, but if two white guys tried to make a movie with the same message as Get Out, it would have been deemed racist from the start.

Regardless of how "on the nose" it was, and the lack of subtext, I enjoyed Get Out for what it was.

How is that? The intentional and heavy-handed racial message should be discussed, without the sensitivity.
