FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

The more I listen to 6/8, first thing is I love it more and more. Second thing I find it hard to believe this was from the first California session, like this is what I would want this lineup's sort of Stockholm Syndrome-ish song to have been on like the next album. Too soon!

Either way, Hey I'm Sorry, Misery and this song give me hope that they make a darker blink album next time. Either way, just glad I have these blink songs period haha. I really wanna hear Bottom Of The Ocean which I think they said is mostly keyboard-oriented.

I swear they said 6/8 is from prefeldmAnn but I'm probably wrong on that. It is hard to think it's from the same recording sessions that gave us Teenage Sattelites and California lol. But I love it the more I listen to it

Maybe it was new. I always forget which are which. I know Parking Lot, Wildfire and Misery were recorded for the deluxe. I think 6/8 was left off California but I'm not positive. Def with Feldmann either way lol

It isn't one of the new ones, I remember Mark doing a podcast when California first dropped and thy mentioned the possible EP he specifically talked about 6/8 about how it was so heavy and different, and I was like "I want it..."

  6. At this point I just want some catchy tunes. It's a missed opportunity to not have Matt's screaming more prominent in 6/8. But the bridges from the three new songs have been really great in my opinion.

You could say the same in comparing Cheshire/Dude Ranch blink to 2003 blink - feels like completely different bands

  8. I'm going to echo Jason and say I love blink due to nostalgia. Musically and lyrically they are whatever, but they were a huge part of me growing up.

I get why people are disappointed with the band's direction. But I just want more music and more shows. I've been able to pick out things I like about the majority of the California songs and deluxe songs, and that's enough for me. If I want lyrical depth or better musicianship I'll go elsewhere.

That's just how I choose to consume this band on a personal level.

    This is true

  10. Haha, I dunno. I think that I went through a phase of thinking about my musical taste and what I like a few years back. Like, pop-punk, by and large, does nothing for me these days. All the new bands releasing pop-punk music that sounds like old pop-punk music, I don't really like. (And I don't think many bands are pushing it forward or making anything that interests me anyway. Like, that Real Friends/Knuckle stuff I think is just bad.) There's stuff that sneaks in (that new Oso Oso album has a great throw-back-y sound, for example), but by and large I think I just am not that big into that style anymore. Which is why I think if EOTS came out today, I'd like it, not love it like I did as a teenager. But at the same time, there's so much coming out on a pretty consistent basis that I just flat out love. New stuff, poppy stuff, hard stuff, different genres. Old music I missed, classics, all of it.

But with stuff like Blink, I listen to TOYPAJ, and can sing along, and it's fun, and enjoyable, and I have a lot of nostalgia attached to it. But it's not blowing me away. And I don't know that it ever really did blow me away ... I liked it. I liked the way it made me feel and it was always just fun to listen to. That's where Neighborhoods, and DEG, and all of Tom's stuff lost me. I just don't find it fun to listen to. I don't enjoy it. With something like California I get that fun feeling again, and some if it's attached to nostalgia, and I don't think that's a bad thing — I like that I like it. I like that I can listen to the new NFG album and smile along with it. It's a good feeling.

Blink is a straight shot of nostalgia for me and has been since they first broke up in 04/05. They will always be my favorite band for what they did for me as a kid growing up. Like many, they got me into playing an instrument, taught me not to take like so seriously, and made me feel like I wasn't alone in those awkward times of adolescents and early adulthood. For that, I will always love the band.

If they were a new pop-punk band that came out within the last 5 years or so, I would probably listen to them, but they would fall into the same category with all the newer pop punk bands like Neck Deep, The Wonder Years, and Real Friends are and I wouldn't nearly appreciate them as much as I do. Nothing ties me to these newer bands. Many sound the same to me. Heck, IDK if they would even be successful or nearly as successful today if they were a new band starting out haha.

I definitely agree. My earlier posts might have not been totally clear, but I was kind of inferring that I didn't know WHAT direction they could even take anymore to make me feel the way I used to, which means I think I'm probably putting impossible standards on them. I'm not at all disappointed in their artistic direction. California is probably the closest they could get to replicating that feeling for me (without Tom, no less).

Man, I keep reading about this fyre festival thing (which is why Blink postponed my Knoxville show because they were supposed to play there), and it's just so amazing how much of a train wreck this event ended up being. There's people still stuck on that island because locals mugged them for their passports and feral dogs are roaming the grounds.

  16. I think I just over analyze this band way more than I should.

I can't overthink blink-182 ever again after hearing this a few years back...

    Whitmer Thomas - Blink 182

Blink is just a band I kick back to and if I enjoy it, awesome. If I don't, that's a bummer. Neighborhoods was boring to me and just didn't connect with me at all. I listened to DED once and said, "well, that's certainly blink-182." California, while nothing amazing, is catchy and fun and I can jam along with it. So I'm content with this version and don't want Tom to ever come back. Skiba for life, please.

Yup good point but it was largely the same members (minus Scott plus Travis) and the majority of people saw that album as a natural progression of the band getting older. Plus everyone loved that album so there wasn't much/any debate about the band.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

The spoken word part of 6/8 sounds alot like Shane Told of Silverstein.

I think skeeb's "this song needs some fucking personality" is my fav part.

I showed the song to my best friend who only likes a few blink songs. He thought it was cool, but thinks the chorus melody is very close to the one from feeling this.
