We can't all pick in the top 5 for 6 years straight, at some point a trade up is necessary, especially when your strongest position of need is QB. Risks are necessary to get the guy you need when you don't pick that high.

NYJ sitting in a real good spot, can't help but think they'll blow it. We nailed it in round one can't possibly keep it up right???

I'd be lying if I said I was completely sold and that Watson would be great for us, he's far from bust-proof. But we haven't picked a QB in the first 3 rounds since Rick Smith became GM. There is no 2nd or 3rd round prospect I like. I'm not taking another Tom Savage in the 4th. I'm not waiting till next year, when Bill O'Brien is fired because there's no QB drafted, Rick Smith keeps his job, Deandre Hopkins demands a trade because we're doing nothing to help him, Watt actually begins to reach his twilight years, the list goes on.

Nothing tells me that. Theres a decent chance someone trades up for him.

I mean I get it. If they think Mitch can be that guy, sometimes you need to take gambles like that. But trading away that many picks when your roster is in need of a total rebuild is pretty wild gamble imo

You're entirely right. I think the shock is more-so "You just paid that much for Mike Glennon and now you're trading up for a QB?" but I feel like it's ideal. Draft him high, don't give up high picks next year, get him weapons next year while Glennon's starting, and bring him in.

That doesn't make the trade less shocking or awful if he busts though. And they DEFINITELY have more holes they need to fill across the board. Including in the places Trubisky would need the most help (defense to keep him on the field, WRs to get him points).

But I DO get why you'd be giddy if you're a division rival and saw your division rivals in HOU/KC/CHI trading up like that

  8. I guess I have the mindset of I don't wanna a brutal season of football. I wanna win as many games as possible. Maybe I'm dumb.

Malik Hooker also scares me a lot, sure he has injury concerns but so did Bob Sanders and look what happened when he was on the field

bears should have stay at 3 we need need help everywhere but whatever more losing

  11. It just depends on how you look at it. It's basically, "they traded that much to move up one spot" vs "they trade that much for their franchise QB". Giving up a 3rd, 4th and future 3rd for a guy who you believe is your franchise QB isn't really a lot. I'm not saying I love the move but the more I think about it, the more I think people are overreacting.

I have a gut feeling that the Packers are going to pick up Cook tonight considering their current running backs are Christine Michael and Ty Montgomery. I could be wrong, but it's just this feeling I have.

First round was fun with all the crazy picks.

I think Watson in HOU is a really good fit for all involved. Very good defense, solid group of offensive skill players, not pressured to start early on (though he likely will,) and BOB is a very good offensive mind. Also, the AFCS isn't exactly dominated by any one team either

Probably the best place he could have landed tbh

I like Hooker, but I get why he slipped some when push came to shove. You have the medical concerns, lean body of work as a one-year starter, and tackling issues. That said, he is the best cover safety and has the best range (covering space and going sideline to sideline) of the safety group. I think Jamal Adams is the easily the best overall safety in that he does everything really well and has the leadership qualities to go with the skill.

Yeah I think the Texans made a good pick. That's a very solid team all-around except at QB. Made sense after the Chiefs took one at 10 to trade up and address their glaring need.

Watson on a rookie wage will also leave an abundance of cap space to resign Nuk/JD and go hard after OL in free agency next year. I believe we will have quite abit of cap space next offseason.

  18. Report from Panthers draft room says Howard was right behind McCaffrey on their board. Crazy he slid all the way to Tampa.

Hooker is fine with me. Could've been Foster or Allen or a lot worse. Instead it's a guy with one year of experience coming off two surgeries who now must be the most reliable player in their secondary. I can live with that.

Trubisky may or may not be a franchise QB. He is the Goff or Wentz. Damn sure isn't Winston or Mariota or Luck or Cam. Houston I get because they actually are a QB away from competing. Watson is a big name guy who will be forced into the starting no matter what. This could be great for Houston but no matter what it will be great for the AFC South. His ceiling is Stafford. He could be an incredible QB but he will never be the guy you fear. Unless he's just been that inaccurate and careless for shits and giggles.

  20. And the Bears gave up less than Philly and LA did for Goff and Wentz, right?

The other thing that perplexes me though: Is Trubisky really a John Fox QB? I see him as Alex Smith, maybe I'm wrong but he feels like Alex Smith to me. But then again do we really know what a John Fox QB is? I don't know. So many questions.

Much less than LA did, with Philly it's less than the trade outright but Philly also was able to make sure they still had a lot of picks for future drafts.

  24. I've always said he's a less conservative Alex Smith.
