  1. Actually didn't realize it was cheaper, makes it a bit more tempting but I have a ton of new games still to finish so I don't know if I want to go in on a remake haha. The Witcher 3 won't play itself!

If that's your theory, you probably won't play a game in 6 months. The Wither 3 is a beast of a game.

  3. yeah, I started it a while back but I've purposefully been trying to finish up lots of other games first, because I know I want to really invest myself in the world and not play anything else for a while haha

What are everyone's thoughts on the Battleborn Beta that has played it? I did one campaign mission last night with three ransoms and played as Marquis.

  5. Finally have a keyblade that's upgraded enough to give me four attacks, don't feel like such a noob anymore.

Sooo I just noticed Shovel Knight is on sale on the PSN store.

I've seen it's name pop up a lot. Is it really worth a purchase?

So I haven't played R&C before this one, which I am absolutely in love with, but is it really a remake? Every review I've read said it's more a 'reimagining,' with elements from various R&C games, but I was under the impressive that it's an (almost) entirely new adventure?

This one is basically the original with newer elements added. Story wise, objectives, locations/planets, etc. are all the same as the original.

    Gotcha, thanks!

  12. Yes!
Shovel Knight is what you remember NES games to be like, rather than what most of them actually were. It's the rose-colored glasses version of an early '90s platformer. Checkpoints rarely punish the player. If you make a mistake, you know it's because you messed up rather than because a button press didn't register. There are no rough edges like a gap that players consistently fall into because of a lack of proper playtesting. Some of the cutscenes are even interactive, and the game looks better and runs smoother than most legitimate NES software.

so i'm going to eventually grab one of fancy smancy "new" 3DS's because my old one bit the dust and will not turn on or charge. is there any way to do a data transfer? or will it all stay tied to my nintendo account (i highly doubt this)?

If you have physical copies, I think save data will stay on the cartridge. Not sure about download data though.

Ugh, people complaining about Doom's multiplayer is about as ridiculous as complaining that Wolfenstein doesn't have a compelling enough storyline.

I have so much love for this game. The physical copies are so cool. I have the 3DS and Wii U copies and the instruction booklets are top notch. So worth the pickup.

What's cool about the instruction booklets out of curiosity?

Well for starters, it has one! haha. If you grew up on SNES or Sega Genesis RPG's, you know that those manuals could be pretty awesome, and thick in content. Shovel Knight's are both of those things, and full color. I think the physical copies came with the soundtrack too, but I can't remember.

While we're on the subject of modern games with manuals, Atlus made a game for the PS3 a while ago called 3D Dot Game Heroes, and it's basically Legend of Zelda for PS3. The manual is also full color, and high quality, as most Atlus stuff has been.

Ah, gotcha! Yeah it's definitely few and far between for games actually having booklets in them.

That is pretty awesome it contains a manual with it! I need to check that game out. Also a lot of those older games needed the manual to help establish the story for the user before they popped in the game so they understood what was going on. As you said, this was a while ago, before "Opening cinematics" existed to explain the story lol ;-p

I remember buying that game and can definitely vouch for this.

It's weird how you forget how much you've missed some stuff until you randomly get it back.

I may forgo the the digital release and buy the physical copy just for the booklet.

Exactly, that was part of the fun. Phantasy Star II came with an amazing Hint book and a full instruction manual, too. And all the great Final Fantasy SNES games and Chrono Trigger - the art of the instruction booklet is so lost these days.

I almost strictly collect retro video games, because I want to relive my childhood, and preserve the history of the art of those older games. It's getting less cheap by the day. Haha. But it's a blast.

I unfortunately made the mistake of trashing everything but the cartridges. I hate it so bad. But I just thought of it as clutter at the time. The boxes would eventually get smashed over time and I was like, yeah I'm throwing this away. I envy you haha. Do you have your collection online anywhere?

Oh I made that mistake so many times as a kid, but somehow escaped with a few boxed NES titles. And I do have a small Tumblr for my collection that I just started a couple of months ago. Hopefully, it'll get documented more frequently, but here's a small taste for now:
