I really liked NWAF as well. Listen To Your Friends is probably my favorite track off it.

 

I'm gonna follow this all up by saying, uh, 21 century breakdown also isn't that bad

 

I still really like the retrospective piece I wrote about AI back in 2014. I think I explained pretty well why it's so much more than just a record of overplayed radio rock singles (and more than just the political subtext).

21st Century Breakdown has too many fucking songs and a few boring stretches. Appreciate the ambition though.

 

It's def bloated as hell and has some snags here and there but overall I don't think it's as bad as most

 

I find it interesting that I keep seeing AI getting brought up for the first time in years given the current political environment. Don't know if there's a causal link there, just an observation.

 

Fun fact about me: I made an account on AP.net to be able to post a rambling ~2000 word user review of 21st century breakdown. Think I gave it a 95 or so. Yikes my friends, yikes

 

Here's a controversial opinion I agree with (although I still do get a kick out of some Nirvana stuff on occasion):

21CB is bad in comparison to Green Day's peak but it's alright in comparison to recent form.

 

My text for this article would consist entirely of the following:

"Because it's a better fucking song."

 

Most Nirvana songs are more interesting than Everlong but with that said Everlong is a great song so w/e

AI has aged very poorly and I wince every time Billie Joe says certain words like F***ot and R*****ed (yes I know Billie joe is bi that still doesn't stop me from wincing since I myself am queer as well) BUT I still really enjoy it? Like, I can't quite parse out why but I still can listen to it and get really nostalgic. I think Revolution Radio and Warning are better tbh.

 

I like Foos more than Nirvana, but they have been around longer.

 

What is the context that Billie uses those words though? Does that make a difference at all or is it problematic no matter what? I'm honestly asking because I'm not one to usually decipher lyrics or try to figure out song meanings.

 

The context for the F word is him quoting someone I believe, and that's fine but I just still wince when I personally hear that word because I've been called that numerous times (I live in NC :/) and the R word is just the character of JoS saying it I suppose? But again, for me personally that word just makes me cringe no matter what. I don't think Billie intended them to be hurtful or anything I just personally don't like hearing it.

I was 9-10 when AI came out, loved it then and still do now. 21CB is definitely too long but mostly solid. Basically AI and Nimrod are head and shoulders above their other albums, even though I love the whole discography.

 

Yeah. I rarely find any rap songs that don't suck.
