I always have a similar feeling when unsigned mixtape rappers talk about how rich they are.

 

I like Cope a lot. I wasn't huge in METN which I think is probably an unpopular opinion.

 

I still have yet to fully understand the appeal of Father John Misty and why I should care about him.

 

He's a very strong and distinct writer with a very clear aesthetic. It's not for everyone, but it's not that hard to see why someone would like him.

 

Like I dig the interviews he does and what not but his music has yet to do something for me. I'll keep trying though.

Yeah, I think the songwriting on the new FJM album is actually pretty poor across the board. He's definitely distinct, though.

 

Mac Demarco has some great songs but the cult his fanbase has become is pretty offputting. His quirkiness was a lot more entertaining before it was mirrored in so much of his audience.

FJM has some brilliant songs that I absolutely love and the rest of his work feels like work to earn those songs haha

 

Late to the party but if I had to choose any records/releases I love by bands I don't care about it would be these:

The Almost - Southern Weather
AVA - I-Empire
Neck Deep - Rain in July/History of Bad Decisions
Sorority Noise - You're not as ___ As You Think
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am

Also not sure how unpopular this is but, overall, There is Nothing Left to Lose is the best Foo Fighters record

Jesus of Suburbia, Give Me Novocain, Letterbomb and St Jimmy are among their greats as well.

 

American Idiot is a classic and is better than any album made by any band in this scene since. #HotTake
