Also as a kid I was really creeped out by when the Ministry kindapped Mideon and had him chained up for an episode

 

My dad was watching that event with me and told me if it was a storyline then I wasn't allowed to watch wrestling anymore.

 

My Dad used to love to mess with me as to whether it was all real. He still jokes about it to this day.

He always said that Taker's gimmick was real which made it even cooler to me as a kid.

I worry that Taker's retirement could be the beginning of the end of supernatural type gimmicks.

I agree if you mean specifically "supernatural" stuff, but I mean Braun just tipped over an ambulance last week, they're not totally getting away from silly over the top nonsense. The supernatural stuff in the past was almost entirely related to Taker anyway, so it makes sense to get away from it.

 

It has, and I hope I'm wrong long term wise.

 

It's the same complaint I've had for the past few years. Aside from a few wrestlers, there are very few fun gimmicks left. There should be a variety that span from funny to scary/supernatural. I just feel like creative is lazy and just wants things to be vanilla because of some analyst telling them that that's what sells these days.

And that folks is how Roman Reigns was born.

 

I want the good shit like Kane killing people in an ambulance and then stomping his broken leg back together.

 

WWE needs Charlotte or Sasha to give birth to a hand

 

I feel like Braun is the perfect level of gimmicky. Bray is way way way overboard

Also. I really bust balls in here cause I like everybody, and most seem to carry along. Its just how I grew up. If I come off strong I apologize. Its hard to catch my playful tone when its just text in a forum.

I'm torn on it. I enjoy gimmicks when they're performed well, but I feel like that's pretty rare. I do think that is one of many things that will hopefully get better once Triple H takes over. I like that places like LU and Chikara go all in on characters, but I don't think something as nuts as Undertaker can ever work again unless WWE went the same way, which I don't see happening. I think WWE works best as a mix of "real" people and Fandango/Breeze/Wyatt level gimmicks.

 

Bray's gimmick would work better if they didn't book it like absolute shit

That's not an opinion. That is a verifiable fact. WWE makes more money off Brock Lesnar as a special attraction than when he is around on a week-to-week basis. Higher merch sales, better ticket sales for TV and live events, higher TV ratings.

 

It hasn't happened often but I'm surprised when Lesnar opens an episode of Raw. Usually they build to it and have him lead off the 2nd or 3rd hour (or end the show) because it gets a bigger payoff because exactly like you said - he's a rarely used commodity that makes lots of money and draws lots of attention.

As an extension of this type of person / business deal, I wonder if Cena will eventually go this route (ala The Rock with scheduled appearances that are advertised) or if Cena sticks around in some capacity (ala GM or something else).
