I think I'm officially a conspiracy theorist because I've been really interested in the Trump forgetting people's names thing for the last 30 minutes.

 

I once had a program instructor tell me she bought an ice cream maker for her sister and her sister didn't like the gift, even though she loves ice cream. She was complaining that she didn't know what to do with it, she might just give it away or something.

I was like "why don't you just return it, get your money back?" She was like "no, I mean why bother? I mean it was pretty cheap. What's the point?"

I won a free toaster oven at work in a raffle and the thing is huge (bigger than my microwave). I found out later it retails for $150 and has stovetop burners on top. Because it's so big, it usually takes more than 10 minutes to properly toast waffles or english muffins (which is all I've used it for so far)

Don't know if it's the same for anyone else following UK politics but the general mood seems to have shifted today on my social media feed. Much closer to one of positivity while recognising an uphill battle rather than complete and utter pessimism about the left's chances. God, I hope the positivity isn't unfounded. Hoping complacency will be the Tory's downfall.

So the UK folk here, why is there so much support for the Tories after the legacy of Thatcher? I get the usual reasons why people support conservative parties so is it a cultural/social thing?

Fwiw I believe large gaps like this close in the run up to elections regardless. That, both the BBC and ITV holding debates regardless of Tory input and the general distrust of May I'm feeling in the local community, even among Conservatives is making me feel better than I was. Probably not a win still, granted, but not the complete decimation of the left that's been predicted.

 

I think they're viewed as safe hands. It's difficult for people to equate spending money as a way to deal with a deficit. That, and them going easier on bigger business than left leaning parties makes them way more favoured by the majority of media outlets who stand to benefit from their policies.

Ah I see. So how will these media outlets benefits from their policies?

 

Lower corporations tax, for one. And not so much on a policy basis, but they'd be treated with much less hostility than a Labour government. Not saying it's right, but the press definitely acts unfavorably towards Labour, even pre-Corbyn.

 

A friend of mine just posted a GoFundMe for her BF because he had an emergency appendix removal and he can't work due to that, which can lead to him losing his apartment. What the fuck is wrong with this country? Like I recall a tweet saying this but people crowdsourcing due to medical reasons is such a dystopian nightmare.

 

Meeting Ice-T and Coco was a high point in my life.
