this is a weird complaint but I wish there were less powerchords on Cope too, thats one of the reasons why I liked Hope more was bc the songs had actual realized harmony

I'll track it down. Am I remembering right that a song on cope rips off pride? Does anyone know what I'm talking about

Can I get you to elaborate on this or is that a hassle lol

  4. I'm a huge Cope fan. It's actually the only MO album I still listen to.

powerchords are missing thirds so the harmony of the chords arn't fully realized. On Hope the songs are often played with full chords. Its a minor thing, I mean almost all punk albums are played with power chords but they usually use lead guitars or other devices to make the songs sound interesting. I feel that Cope plays the songs with mostly powerchords and doesn't pair them with anything at times other than the occasional synth lines which I enjoy. But you pair that with the super fuzzy guitar tones they used on the record and you end up with a lot of the songs sort of sounding the same. I still enjoy the songs, and still love the band on the record just a preference thing really.

Oooh interesting. I guess that goes with their desire for the big sounding rock record and everything but iirc they also didn't do a ton to vary song structures did they? I may have just glazed over on that front though. Thanks for that!

song structures were pretty generic intro verse chorus interlude verse chorus bridge/outro occasionally back to the chorus. I have a feeling this concept record will be at the very least very experimental in structures

saw them at Middle of the Map last summer. Best I've ever heard them live. They hit every note, make every song harder, and are one of the loudest bands live out there. So damn good.

@Jason Tate have you heard anything about when their new LP is coming?

I posted a few weeks ago that my friend's brother, who works for Concord Music Group, has the mastered album. He sent me a message about it in Early March. Concord Music Group helped distribute Cope and Hope, and apparently they are doing this album as well. I asked him back in early March when he thought it'd come out and he didn't know for sure, but was thinking Fall - he said if it were any earlier, there wouldn't be much time for marketing and promotions.

For what it's worth, he said it was a top 10 album he had heard in the last year, and he's not even a big MO fan.

Cope is probably my favorite album of theirs at this point.

I like cope. But mean everything to nothing is a damn masterpiece and should be considered a scene classic

I think I'd put METN third behind Cope and Simple Math. I guess my rankings go in reverse chronological order. Cope is the least varied for sure, but something about those songs really stuck with me.

Hopefully there's not a delay with the vinyl. I think that's what the reason was for the 5+ month rollout for The Menzingers.

It's really good, but nowhere near that status I don't think.

I think it's kind of got that status low-key. Like there are people who don't care for Manchester who still seem to fuck with METN but maybe that is anomalous idk

Hey man, we all can't be like you Supporter

Very few labels will schedule a release based on vinyl pressing times, for whatever that's worth.

I'd put METN at that status as well. It should be. It's their masterpiece, at least.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

I spoke to a close friend of MO/Andy's, and as of 2 weeks ago there's still no release date (even within the MO camp).
