I was around 60 hours in when my friends son deleted my game to start his own. I was pretty bummed, and haven't found the motivation to start playing again. He also spent 100 bucks on For Honor and its season pass. I wouldn't be so pissed if it was game I was actually interested in.

can you have multiple files on this game, like 3 separate save files as on past games? or is it only one?

    @maybevictor Prestigious

You have to play with a separate user / account on the console, the game itself only holds 1 save file

edit: at least that's how it works on the wii u, assume the switch version is the same

    Thought-spewing incoming:

I finished this last night. Well, finished the main story.

It really pales in comparison to every other 3d game in the series, in terms of story and overall emotional journey. It doesn't feel like it has a beginning, middle, or end...the whole game almost feels like one big introduction to this version of hyrule. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing....it was really fun to play. But, I think we need a true sequel to this, and fast. No 6 year wait. Just use the same engine, hell even use some of the same map, but add a new plot with real dungeons. I guess we'll see what the DLC brings.

I need a multiplayer 3D Zelda on switch. Give me Four Swords in a more linear Hyrule on this engine. Hell, I'd settle for Two Swords lol.

since i don't have a WiiU or a Switch i've been just watching YT videos of the game.
has anyone come across the Iwata tribute in the game? slight spoilers in that video for the moment in the game, if you haven't already found out about the particular area from Botrick.

Do shrine quests that require you to do something at a certain time give any hints as to what the time is? Or is the only way to solve them without spoilers to just sit there for an in-game day waiting for something to happen?

Yeah I definitely agree the story is pretty weak in this game. All the trailers and even the first few hours of the gameplay play it up like it's going to be this big, epic story, but no, not at all really. Biggest complaint for sure.

No shrine is technically required and none of them have any story spoilers

Yeah, that's the main issue i have with the game and it really holds it back for me.

I think the storytelling in this game is pretty good if you bother to look for the memories and talk to NPCs

I did that and it's still very barebones and weak imo. I think the only thing i really liked was Zelda's character development but i feel like she was woefully underused. It's the least involved and invested I've ever felt in a 3D Zelda game.

For the entire story/plot to be about the past/memories is kiiiind of cool in a sense that it's different, but it has a lack of momentum or urgency / pacing that rises throughout the game, making it feel more like an MMO or something.

I don't really have complaints, or at least none that I feel would really make sense. What they've accomplished in Breath of the Wild is just incredible. It's pretty much the most polished open world game I've ever played, by a longshot. Just thinking about the amount of planning that had to go behind the scenes, the amount of sync-ups the different sections of the team had to do, and then making sure all of those have that classic Nintendo polish (I don't think a lot of people appreciate how much more effort it takes to jump a game from playable to really really really polished and immersive). I'm pretty sure at one point they did consider adding more dungeons, enemy types and stuff but it probably would've taken so much more planning, and financially speaking would be impractical. It makes sense to me that the game is what it is. They deconstructed the whole franchise and turned it into something fresh. You need a crazy amount of time to make that work.

While I don't think the criticisms against it are invalid (I have some as well), I just hope people don't discount how crazy it is that a game like BotW exists. I'm a full time programmer, and I feel so overwhelmed just trying to think about the developer-side of it much more the planning and balancing and everything else that had to go with it.

Yeah i don't mean to discount all of the things they did right. It's easily the best open world game ever imo. I find it hard to even finish most open world games and dispite my personal problems with it this is still one of my all time favourite games. They just focused more on the open world and less on the dungeons and story which doesn't align with what i care about.

Plus i really wanted to play the game in that green ocarina tunic. Dumb amiibo.

since they've already got the world, physics and combat pinned down I feel like the natural next step is to bring back the dungeons. That's what I'm hoping the dlc would include as well. Something like a beefed up version of the labyrinths with tougher enemies.

I personally prefer what they did here to regular dungeons. I never really liked dungeons though.

Dungeons were always one of my favourite things about Zelda. I loved what they did with the beats the first time but then having the other three be pretty much the same thing and only having four was pretty disappointing. I liked the shrines a lot but I never felt the same sense of awe or excitement exploring those as I did traditional Zelda dungeons.
