My Roommate From Hell

Back on AP, I recall there being a thread about roommates. Share your bad roommate stories or issues dealing with bad roommates.

The worst roommate I had was when I had to move into campus housing. I lived in an off-campus unit affiliated with the school because it was walking distance and the night shuttle was an option during certain times if needed, since I didn't have I car, I figured this was the safest option.

Anyway, I lived with 3 people because it was the cheapest for rent and rent wasn't cheap to begin with. The evil roommate I had would constantly harass and bully me pretty badly I think. The first day she moved in she complained about the location of my desk, and how she needed more "room" next to her bed. Since she asked nicely if I could move it over a little bit, I did. Apparently that wasn't good enough for her because instead of coming to me and nicely saying "is it possible to move it move it a little more", she told one of the RAs. I come home from work with tape on the ground dividing "my side" and "her side". This makes me really mad. At first I thought she had done it until she told me the next day the RA did it. This caused major problems because since my roommate made a really big issue out of it, the manager got involved and I was forced to push my desk half way under my bed so she can have "room". This technically took away my "space" and I hardly had any just so she could have more.

This same roommate would constantly complain about EVERYTHING. Every time something didn't go 100% her way, she'd run to the RA. There was no compromising and meeting in the middle with her. She was not someone who would meet in the middle. It had to be her way. She would make false accusations about me "breaking" our roommate contract which was entirely false. She'd only complain about me if I done something she felt was breaking it, but wouldn't complain about anyone else. She'd also lie and say no one else breaks it and how I think I'm above everyone else and how I think I don't need to follow it. That statement was really absurd because that describes her! She would also talk shit about me and say I'm rude and inconsiderate, again she's describing herself.

I was hardly home in the fall semester. I was either at work or at school. Yet she would find something to cry to the RA about. From day one she had been doing this, she had been trying to get me kicked out since day one too. It's like she had this hatred for me (that she denied) because I wouldn't let her take advantage and walk all over me and let her get her way. She comes from an only-child family so I guess she's use to getting her way, when she wants it, the way she wants it; and when I wouldn't take that shit, she got angry. With that she expect me to do things immediately that she wanted. Example: I had planned on getting an organizer for my school supplies, and since I literally had NO TIME to look because I worked and took 18 units so all my free time was studying, she told the RA that I said I was getting one and never got one, even though I never told her when I was getting one, just that I plan on it, but don't know when I'll have a chance. What was weird is I would be studying and all the sudden the RA would be there. Like whatever happened to talking about issues first. Apparently the roommate is a liar and think she has talked to me but doesn't. She also would expect me to listen to her, but she wouldn't listen to me and give me a nasty attitude.

Her harassment and bullying continued to get worse, the RA stopped listening to me and allowed her to bully me. Every time I had an issue, the RA would ignore me, yet with her she'd quickly responded. I made a complaint though the schools housing office, but it didn't work because all they did was forward the email to management, who sucks balls and didn't give a shit. The roommate of mine did a bunch of shit to make me look like the bad person, and it worked. I was nearly evicted for nothing… because of her. I was forced to switch rooms or get evicted. This had a really big toll on me. I didn't enjoy living with the new people, even though they were nice. My grades dropped because of it all.

If I actually had time I could list all the ridiculous things this evil person complained about. Like the time she got mad because I was cleaning up my own mess on the stove. And I probably left out some stuff. I also felt like she was trying to poison me, but who would believe me.

I hope karma bites her in the ass so hard.

 

My heart started racing reading this. I'm so sorry. I thought my frosh roommate was a bitch, but this is crazy. I hope she failed or of college or something.

 

I had a roommate in college that was obsessed with cheese so there's that.

 

It was the worst!! I've never met someone so evil before. karma will get her when the time is right.

 

I had a roommate who would watch porn allllll the time, like it was tv. He'd just have it on in the background of whatever he was doing, including talking to his gf on the phone. I felt so bad for her, she ended up dumping him though and found a much better guy so I was happy about that.

 

MY roommate in college was into some really weird porn and did acid and shrooms all of the time. Miss that guy.

 

My first post-college roommate accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own gun.

He had it in his pocket and not in a holster (it was a small CC gun. Also, common sense, right?) and tried to remove it from his pocket while sitting in a car seat, in the process disengaging the safety and pulling the trigger in one fell swoop.

I moved out two weeks later.

 

Lived in a cool old Victorian downtown for about a year with a guy I was somewhat acquainted with.

I'm 78% sure he never showered in the year I was there.

 

my grad school roommate was a bro with boundary issues, yes he played Dave Matthews Band etcetera constantly

 

'Boundary issues' sounds, well, sinister.

The worst I've had wasn't technically a house-mate, but was near enough. She was my house-mate's girlfriend and was at ours more often than not. I honesty don't think I've met a more disgusting individual. Have you ever met anyone who didn't know how to use a bin? Because I have!

Her best moments include:
-Leaving severely soiled underwear on our living room floor.
-Leaving a scalpel between the cushions of the sofa (because who doesn't casually carry a scalpel?).
-Storing potatoes on the living room floor.
-Leaving a used tampon on our bathroom floor (nowhere near the bin, just in the middle of the floor) and then arguing about the semantic differences between a sanitary towel and a tampon when we pointed out that she should use the fucking bin.

Those are the funny parts. Being a manipulative, attention seeking pile of garbage, less so.

 

I once had a housemate who fought a Christmas Tree. He was pretty intense.

Well, here is my roommate story:

My friend and I were looking for a roommate. He found someone on Craig's List. Well, I disagreed with the person he chose because I thought we'd established a strict no white roommate policy. Anyway, I aquiesced. It was at this point things started going missing around the house, both money and personal belongings. We gave her the benefit of a doubt. Well, I went to talk to a neighbor about a couple of things, and all we heard was screaming. Well, we went outside and the roommate busted her shins open and was lying on the ground. She'd been trying to climb into the neighbors house from a window that was reachable from hers', in order to steal some things and she fell.

Today I knew my rm's dogs had pooped all over the house. I keep my door shut but as soon as I woke up I could smell it. Sure enough. And it was BAD. Like one of the worst. I've vocalized my complaints before but this time I flipped out a bit. I'm just so done. It sets a horrible tone for the day and it's just ridiculous and disgusting and should not be happening, and it happens almost every day. She usually either has me let them inside at night or does it when she gets off work, but she never sleeps here. She always leaves the dogs and sleeps at her bfs and I have to deal with how annoying they are. So now she's going to take the dogs with her every night to her bfs because I refuse.

 

First semester of college - roommate meowed, spoke with a fake accent, would get on my laptop when I was out of the room, and told people I was gay (I'm not) because she thought it would be a funny thing to do (no issue with people thinking I'm gay, which apparently many did, but why tell people that for fun???), among other things. She somehow broke her tailbone around Thanksgiving break and had to drop out.

Second semester of college - arranged for another girl who had become my friend to move in with me after the first roommate left. She had some really bizarre issues with both passive and active aggression, which made for a lot of unpleasant times. She'd also get mad at me for wearing crop tops to parties or when a guy liked me and not her, despite the fact that she had a secret boyfriend at the time??? I don't know. She transferred after that semester.

Sophomore through senior year - two roommates, my two "best friends," but they constantly ganged up on me and sometimes would hide my stuff or tell people stuff about my personal life that I would tell them in confidence. One was also horribly and blindly racist/homophobic/etc and SUPER defensive and argumentative. Three days before graduation I finally called them out on ganging up on me and they were like lol ok

Currently - moved in with my ex-high school best friend who was actually a terrible friend because I thought maybe she'd changed and she needed a roommate. Things were actually really okay (minus the fact that she would rearrange my things, didn't let me help decorate, took down the things I hung up/replaced things I bought, used some of my things without asking), until she decided to stop talking to and acknowledging me for no apparent reason. Thankfully she hasn't been here much recently because she travels for work.

I've had some great luck with roommates. I just signed a lease on a one bedroom and move May 1. Thank god.

 

My rm got home from work last night, let the dogs in, then left and said she'd come back to take them to her bfs. She didnt. They pooped on the floor.

 

If she's away all night, can't you just put the dogs in her room?

 

My freshman year roommate would take pictures of people if they were drinking underage or doing drugs as blackmail. Also, my friends and I still believe he once tried to drug a girl's drink before my friend saw him, and he acted like nothing happened. Dude was fucking weird.

 

My roommate in college didn't ever leave the room unless he was going to class, which most of the time was at the same time as my classes. Got approximately 0 alone time

 

Idk. Her original plan was to clean her room so she could put them in there but she never did. But idk they're big dogs and I feel bad that they'd go from being trapped into a tiny kennel to a tiny room. Last night she didn't even come home to let them in or ask me to let them in. I fell asleep early and woke up at 2am to them howling outside. I feel really bad for them tbh

 

Had a college roommate who I lived with for two semesters and legitimately never knew his name. He never said a word and either spent all his time locked in his room doing god know what, or if he left, he would beeline it straight for the door without saying anything. I snuck into his room once just to make sure he wasn't cooking meth or something, and didn't see anything too weird; his room was just really dirty.

Luckily there was five of us living at that place and the other three were all awesome, so I just kinda forgot about him after a while.

 

Junior year of college: Roommate's girlfriend more or less moves in with us. Unpleasant things occur.

Senior year of college: Roommate's new girlfriend unexpectedly moves in with us. Even more unpleasant things occur.

Two years out of college: I move in with my friend, then find out his girlfriend is moving in with us so she can attend law school. Essentially lives with us for free and is a pain in the ass.

Dont live with couples. It's bad life decisions.

 

That's a mess of a situation. Sounds like she shouldn't really have them at all.

 

Yeah ia. Idk what the point is of having them if she just leaves them alone. She says they're like her children but she'd be straight up nailed for neglect if they were. She grew up in the country with lots of animals so I think she likes the idea of having these big country dogs but doesn't have the discipline or responsibility to care for them properly.
