lol, I don't remember much about the story, but that art was gorgeous. I actually often forget about it, but it was one of the titles (along with Fraction's Hawkeye) that pushed me to make a pull list. Maybe I should revisit it eventually.

We don't discriminate like Tim does with Batman so it's absolutely welcome

I've been catching up on DC Rebirth. I love how they nailed the Trinity. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all have fantastic books right now.

My biggest surprise is probably how much I love the Nightwing book. I might have to go back and read Grayson.

Remember our previous conversation about hoping the inevitable fill-in for Mike Del Mundo on Avengers would be a worthy one?

Good news: After this arc, Phil Noto is gonna do some issues.

I am VERY ok with that choice in artist. Del Mundo better be back w/ the third arc, but I'm quite happy the quality of art on the series will continue to be at that level. (Also glad he's one of the artists lined up for an issue of Astonishing X-Men.)

Comixology just wants all my money. First, it was a huge Astonishing X-Men sale. Now, Grant Morrison's NEW X-MEN is on sale.

Read I Hate Fairyland Vol 2.

That book is so insane and great. Not sure if anybody else is still reading it or not.

I read that the other day. Didn't like it as much as vol 1 but still thought it was a lot of fun and I love his art.

Vol 2 definitely didn't feel nearly as cohesive as Vol 1 but I'm still intrigued enough to continue on with it even if it is mainly for the art and craziness of it all

So it sounds like King is going to be doing some awesome stuff with Batman this summer as well.

"The War of Jokes and Riddles" will be presented as a flashback story taking place after the events of Zero Year and roughly a year into Bruce Wayne's costumed career. According to King, the two villains clashed during that period because neither wanted the other to rob them of the opportunity to defeat Batman. Now that unseen story will finally be told.

To be fair, Nolan did a great job that it's pretty difficult to follow...

Seeing that announcement and having 0% of my being get hyped over it was a reminder that, as much as I love a lot of specific Batman stuff, I just can't personally think of myself as a Batman fan. I guess it's cool that it heavily features the Riddler, who (thanks to Hush) is one of my favorite Batman villains. And, Janin is a great artist. I don't see myself reading any of it, though, unless I find the issues or trade for cheap down the road.

Really cool that it makes y'all so hyped, though. I know how hyped I get about all things related to the world of Spider-Man, so I'm glad this story will give that same feeling to some in this thread.

Honestly, following up Nolan shouldn't be that hard. All you have to do is lean more heavily into something that feels more like traditional Batman than Nolan's world did. That great costume Affleck wore in the horrible BvS was a big step in the right direction. Pick a good villain that can produce the kind of quality fight sequences we haven't really gotten with the character yet (Deathstroke was a good choice for that), include another iconic villain for an opening action sequence, throw in a bunch of other iconic villain and sidekicks in small but natural roles, etc. The excitement over something more akin to what you see on the page would largely counteract the pressure of living up to The Dark Knight.

The same thing would work for an inevitable Wolverine recasting/reboot someday: Give the new actor a classic costume and a couple classic foes we haven't seen yet, and people won't get too stuck on having someone other than Hugh Jackman.

Just so Tim isn't alone, I'm not a batman fan myself. I read him when good writers are on him, because he is integral to the DCU, but I don't like the character.
