Great concept. But the movie was awful. Terrible acting. The dialogue was some of the worst I've seen in a movie in a long.

I watched The Midnight Meat Train last night. I love Vinnie Jones and his meat hammer but overall I thought the movie was average. Also maybe I missed it but what the hell was he cutting off himself and putting in the jars?

I think the buzz the IT trailer is getting settles it: we're about to enter a new era of mainstream horror. I would imagine the box office of IT will be huge, probably breaking opening weekend records for a horror film, and with how well Split and Get Out were received by the masses, I think studios are going to start taking horror more seriously. The indies have been doing great for a long time, and it looks like the mainstream is following suit.

At the very least, Stephen King adaptations should become a thing again

    Was Split any good?

I personally wouldn't put it up there with the independent stuff that has been blowing people away (which I would do for Get Out) but it was really good, yeah

It seems like horror has been doing well for the last several years, especially in the competitive summer months. The Conjuring, The Purge, Don't Breathe, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, and other found footage and subsequent sequels have all been doing well, especially since they have a much smaller budget than most features.

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

Skin tags or warts or callouses or something iirc.

The end of that movie is nuts lol

Yeah it was just really weird and never explained, like I thought maybe it was an infection from the creatures or something but who knows. And yes the ending is crazy and over the top haha

Oh, absolutely. I didn't want to come across as if horror has been totally shunned, but I really do think the genre is about to see a boom similar to what Paranormal Activity did - except this time it won't be low budget found-footage, but more high budget, well-respected blockbusters like The Conjuring. I think the industry is going to take more chances and put money into interesting concepts like Don't Breathe as well

I just don't want money being sunk into CGI effects. Practical effects work best with horror.

If Split, Get Out and IT are the precedent and the template studios will be looking at, I hope they'll understand it's not necessary

Random FYI: The Good Son isn't really horror, more of a dark thriller, but it's on Netflix and it's worth a watch.

I agree that it deserves the thriller genre, but man is there some fucked up shit on that movie.

This movie happens at a party, and it's not British so it's probably not what you're thinking of. But its' the only one that came to mind. It was meh I thought.

I ended up putting this on tonight when I got home and it's crazy to think that Macaulay's dad bullied the studio to cast his son (or else he wouldn't do Home Alone 2). Mac was at the height of his career and his dad ran the risk in putting him in a movie that could totally turn audiences off. I was the right age in terms of the Mac craze and somehow saw this as a kid (maybe when it came on video). But as dark as this is, Mac and Elijah still pull off some good performances,

I saw The Void last night. Thoroughly entertaining. Paper thin plot. Zero character depth. The narrative was essentially just a vehicle for all the on screen carnage. It was so fun. Crazy effects. Gore galore. They go for an ending that tries to be deeper than what the film really is, it kind of misses the mark. But overall, it just too good of a time to care about the weaknesses.
