Ha Chino messed up that lyric. Also Vega makes the funniest faces sometimes haha.

    hmmm

I actually thought the way Chino did the bridge there was better than the album version. He properly went into the screams, which made it sound really intense.

I'm not very well versed/knowledgable of what consists of a time signature, but that's definitely one in Acid Hologram yeah? When the guitars kinda stutter, and it repeats later in the song.

What would be a track from Gore that you would enjoy seeing live most? I think Geometric or (L)MIRL would be cool. Not sure what new songs besides the singles they're planning on playing.

Kinda bummed that this is probably my least favorite album of theirs that I've heard.

That said, one of my bosses just came in here giddy from detention next door because he could hear "Hearts/Wires" through the wall. So thanks for winning me points at work, Deftones.

Either of those, and probably Phantom Bride to see how they would do it and for that massive ending.

I'd have to relisten to that song specifically, but I'll use Geometric Headdress as an example in the meantime. 4/4 is the standard beat in music from the United States, where the beat is emphasised on the quarter note and there's four quarter notes (so it goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on).

In Geometric Headdress, the verses are in 5 and then repeats, so the beat is in 5/4 as five quarter notes make up one measure before it repeats. That is what's known as an odd time signature. It's really cool sometimes because we're so used to hearing a lot of music in 4/4 and sometimes 3/4, but hearing songs in 5/4 or 7/4 can be very appealing if done well. The verses in CMND/CNTRL are in 7/4 actually if you want an example of something in 7.

That's my basic understanding of time signatures. If somebody more well-versed in music theory reads this and finds anything inaccurate, or just flat out wrong, please correct me. Always willing to learn more about music theory.

Might change with time. I had the same reaction when I heard SNW for the first time and now I love it.

Always a possibility. But as Chino's melodies go, so goes my ranking with them, and the melodies so far don't stand out to me the way they did on KNY or Diamond Eyes.

Gore may possibly be my favorite album they've ever done tbh. At the very least, it's in my top 3 with White Pony and Diamond Eyes. It's basically everything I've ever wanted from them.

I agree that the melodies aren't as memorable on this album. I've listened to it a lot and I still can't remember how half the songs go. I didn't have this problem with their other albums...

I remember how at least half of the songs go for me on here so the melodies are working for me.

Hah. They're such a good band that it's hard for me to fault any ranking/opinions with them. Every record is good. But yeah.

It's definitely more of a grower album than DE or KNY imo so I would say at least give it two more spins.

I think my favorite Chi basslines are in the verses of "Cherry Waves" and "Dai the Flu." I'm sure there are some other great ones that I'm forgetting.

I think it was the Karrang! article where Abe said how he was not talkin to Chi around the time of SNW, and how bad he feels about it.

    Just sounds so sad.:tear:

Strange, I had read an article or two from around SNW with Abe where he said he was the one trying to get the whole band together and have fun.

Obviously I'm sure there was poor communication all around, but I got the impression that Abe had the best intentions for the band.

Abe just seems like the dude in the band who would butt heads the least out of everyone. He always comes across as the nicest, most chill dude.

You pretty much nailed it, dude, especially with the song examples. As far as Acid Hologram, the time signature is hopping back and forth during that part Cameron mention (which is probably my favorite moment on the whole album). I'm gonna try to figure it out a little later by subdividing it instead of counting it with a quarter note pulse.

This. Every interview of his I've ever read or seen, I have the goofiest grin on my face the entire time because he's got an amazing energy and kindness to him. And his sense of humor kills me.

    Rest in peace, Chi.
