I spoke too soon on this one. That's what I get for listening on low volume with only one headphone in. This one will definitely be making the alternate California track list when it's all said and done. Probably a top 5 release from this line-up so far.

 

I like this more than most of the songs on California. Skiba still sounds kind of weird, but this is still better than most of the new stuff.

 

I'm not as crazy about "Parking Lot", but that second chorus where Mark and Matt are both singing/yelling at the same time sounds so awesome. Goes with your point about how Mark doesn't sound as good when he's singing in his low talking voice.

Edit: My favorite Mark vocals are when he's kind of yelling, like in "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Here's Your Letter"

I... like it. But that's about it. Tonally it's what I want to hear from blink, a little darker/sadder/more mature, but the song doesn't really go anywhere or do anything particularly interesting. It's fine. Way better than Parking Lot. Hopefully it grows.

On one hand: JESUS CHRIST! Already writing a new album at the end of the year?! hahaha hell yeah!

On the other hand: What about Alkaline Trio?!

 

Holy hell, I was kind of digging the song until Mark came in on the bridge and......I loved it even more.

 

At first i thought it sounded rushed that they were starting to record their new album already this year. But then i figured that the next record then will be released in 2018, two years after California was released, which used to be how they did things. The delays around Neighborhoods, and the album after with that with Tom which never came, has damaged me haha.

 

It's soooooo goood. This blows Parking Lot out of the water I love this

 

I wonder if this was a Pre-Feldmann track. Regardless, I think this is the right sound for this iteration of Blink.

 

This song is okay. I don't think it's as good as the best songs from California.

 

I still love "Parking Lot" a ton. Listen to both new songs back to back. It feels good. The only thing about "Parking Lot" that isn't great is Mark's verse... But even that reminds me of Cheshire Cat kinda. Just cheesy lyrics over a punk beat. But yeah... I love both songs.

 

Listen to it some more. It took a few times for me to be totally into it.

 

I really wish someone would ask Matt what the plan is for Alkaline Trio.

 

Really enjoying this song, definitely better than some of the album tracks

 

Can I just say that I am so happy Blink is so active like this, this is awesome two years in a row they're releasing quality music and this thread is digging it.

Also Misery kicks ass

 

Everyday I'm just convinced Trio is done.

 

Really really like this song. 2 for 2 so far for me.

Also I'm not sure there's anything I love more than a good Mark Hoppus bridge.

 

I don't think anything is. I know 6/8 is from the original California album sessions with Feldmann and Parking Lot, Misery, and Wildfire are all from the deluxe recording sessions.

 

RIP Alkaline Trio.
