If you want to give King a shot, try "The Long Walk." That book is an absolute masterclass in tension.

I'd say Mr. Mercedes isn't horror more thriller. But not scary just action packed. Although I haven't READ it just listened

    thank you.

it should be noted that I could NEVER do what you do. my brain just doesn't work that way. writing a cohesive novel is a nightmare of mine. I can write a decent short story, but poetry is my niche. I tried to write a novella one time and that was a fucking disaster haha

The thing King does exceptionally well is to highlight the fact that most horror is in fact human, not the monsters.

Yea I'd be interested as well! I've been dicking around with this novel idea for about a year now. Got half way through the first draft and scrapped it. Regrouped some ideas, now just trying to find the time to start round 2 outside of work and fuckin off.

Ive posted some poems in the share your writing thread b4 2. But threads all talk no walk.

I used to write poetry in high school/college, but I lost the knack for it once I began to study it more. But that's a mixture of self-confidence and identifying that I like longform better, I think.

It took me three and a half years to even get one I semi-like, so I'm not sure my brain works that way. I'm just stubborn and put in a ridiculous amount of work. I hope people can read my stories one day, but I know the odds are super stacked against me from the start in the literary world. That's just how it works--as I'm sure you're aware. Poetry is probably even more cutthroat that novels.

in that case, i again say: "On Writing"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I imagine, like Travis, that most of us are hesitant to share considering how quickly things can be stolen on the internet.

it's tough out there, man. I am really lucky that I had a few good people that believed in my avant-garde style of writing, and have helped me along. I owe a lot to other people tbh. I have nothing but confidence in you tho. keep at it! godspeed, my friend

firm believer that everyone is creative and sometimes you just need to nurture it a bit. even if no one ever sees it. even if it's unique takes on pop culture references and puns, it's hardwired to creativity.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I don't feel very creative at all, and it bums me out. Lots of my friends are super talented in writing, music, etc. Maybe I'm creative in a way I haven't noticed.

I haven't read much poetry but when I do I get confused. I think my brain doesn't follow figurative language very well. Or with my attention span I'll zone out while reading it and have to re-read a stanza six times and still but get it

I have read almost exclusively fiction

So, this is a blog I had for awhile and shut down...but here's a link to the pieces of writing I'm proud of that I would never really try to get published, notwithstanding the link to an actually published article. Don't know that I've ever linked to this blog on here or AP, though it was linked to my Facebook when active. Wasn't really friends with any of y'all back then, though.

That being said, "Up, Down, Fast, Slow, Inverted, and All Over the Place"--in my opinion--is the best thing I've ever written (it was a portion of my senior thesis; the other half was way more academic and is also linked on this page). So if you want a very short window into my writing style and my childhood, that's a piece worth reading, I think.

I don't usually share this stuff, just kinda let people stumble upon it, so yeah. This felt so weird to type out. What's a writer without neuroses? Drunk.
