Only ever used to watch them on TV but I have fallen out of favour with mainstream Top 40 music for a while now.

Not sure if I should get Mass Effect: Andromeda or wait until it comes down in price since I do like the look of it but hard to ignore the faults and the less than stellar reviews.

It takes EA/Bioware games a longgg time to come down on price I think

What does this game play like, any games similar to it? I saw gameplay recently and thought it looked badass.

What are the stories in those games? I've read some really funny weird blurbs about them

For half of the first game, it is about a kid and Donald Duck and Goofy going to Disney worlds and fighting bad guys. Then it turns into this deeply stupid and overcomplicated story about the darkness and a guy named Xehanort. The cut scenes can be skipped, though.

gameplay wise... its like a mash-up of a 3rd person action game (like god of war/devil may cry) and a bullet hell game. all the combat was done by platinum games (who did the Bayonetta games) so this style of game is their bread and butter.

the actual story of the game however is bat-shit insane and is like nothing i've ever played before. No idea how I would explain this game to people lol.

I just got the true ending to the game, and so my initial reaction is this is a low-key masterpiece.

Nier Automata is finally where Yoko Taro's unique, enthralling stories and lore got equally enjoyable gameplay to match. His trademark multiple playthrough mechanic has a much more valid reason for existing and the gameplay is just much more fun with the best action game developer in the biz working on it (I do not miss you at all, Cavia). Not everything about Automata is my favorite of Yoko Taro's work (In particular, I still think the cast of characters in the original Nier is his strongest) but it is by far the best overall package, the most accessible and his own personal masterpiece of his career thus far.

P.S. I feel the need to mention this every time I post about this game, the soundtrack is incredible.

ya this soundtrack blew me away. Gonna go back and play his other games now (knowing the gameplay is gonna be lacking in alot of them) just so I can experience their stories. This was my first introduction to his work.

Why is Bioshock 2 frowned upon? I have just started, but it seems fine so far.

I think it was just expectations after his great the first one is. 2 didn't really add too terribly much else gameplay wise and is much the same as 1.

Just know that the gameplay is ROUGH and it gets repetitive in a way Automata never does. NIER AUTOMATA SPOILERS Unlike Automata, where the required multiple playthroughs are vastly different with the multiple characters, his previous games have you replaying the content in a much more repetitive way and the final ending often involves finding/upgrading every weapon in the game fully, some of which are hidden away quite well...so have a guide handy.

I'm probably...20 hours in and it gets a lot better. I've watched a lot of reviews as well and it had me really down on a game that i'd been ridiculously excited for for so long, but while that stuff does matter, those issues are little blips in a huge game that's overall really enjoyable. Especially if you liked the first Mass Effect.

I like it a lot, but it is pretty broken, so waiting for some patches wouldn't be a bad thing I guess
