If AJ, Bryan, and Tyler could regroup without Cody they could make an incredible album.

Miles Apart for me. One of my favorite TDS songs ever. One of the few on GR that has the "magic" from RFTS/WP

My favorite song on Golden Record might be Honesty.

Reach for the Sun is my favorite album by them too.

Damn, you're one of the only people I've heard say that ALIR ranks low in Mayday's catalog. It's the only album I can listen to by them except for Tales and some of the self titled. To each their own though!

ALIR and Black Lines are my two least favorites in their catalog. S/T and MITC are mostly excellent, and ABH is a really fun record that I'll always defend.

yooooooo, whether this means AJ solo, or a possible TDS reunion (minus Cody) i am HYPED. AJ is still one of my favorite lyricists to date

Cody has been unusually silent on social media lately (I'm sad that I know that) so maybe he's toning it down because he is part of the reunion.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I won't be supporting this if it's with Cody. Can't have him in this band.

I'd like to pretend I wouldn't listen if Cody was involved. But I probably would.

Someone in this thread insinuated that he's in jail? Not sure how accurate that is.

  20. I think it's highly unlikely Cody has any part of this. But seeing AJ 'confirm' an entire album is coming is awesome

I too believe I had credibly read that Cody was (and seemingly still is) in jail. He robbed an apartment at a felony level.

That said, I am so stoked to see AJ using his amazing talents. I can't wait to buy whatever he puts out and support him.

Not sure if he's currently in jail. But this article talks about him being arrested. I searched the inmate records for Austin, Texas jail and he didn't come up.

Edit: Wikipedia states he was sentenced to a year in jail in February 2017 but doesn't give a source.

    Newbie

Long time lurker here, finally after almost 10 years I've made an account specifically to post in this thread...

Like a lot of you it was Blake's review of RFTS that got me into this band. I remember listening to the songs posted on their MySpace while at work and digging it, then when I finally got the record my mind was absolutely blown. It was definitely a "right place, right time" kind of record, I heard the record in its entirety for the first time while I was going through a nasty manipulative relationship/breakup/depression trifecta, and somehow AJ just seemed to hit that balance of being melancholy but still finding hope that I really needed to hear. That record ranks with Everything in Transit and A Lesson in Romantics as one of my top three all-time. For a long time my Facebook "About Me" section was just a shitload of lyrics from RFTS haha :p

I had huge expectations for War Paint, naturally, and honestly I really didn't enjoy it as a whole, but for some reason "Everyone Left" just punched me in the chest like no other song ever has. After the horrible breakup I'd gone through I was really scarred and bitter, just starting to get used to the idea of being okay without her, and the lines "some say you have to scar to belong to her" and "I'll live alone, and find my peace" just really spoke to me where I was. I go back and forth on what my favorite song of all time is, but there's no question that "Everyone Left" is hands down the hardest I've ever been emotionally impacted by a single song. I've worked up a halfway decent acoustic version that sounds nothing like the original - which, to me, is a measure of just how great a song it really is. John Feldmann once said that when he produces for a band, he always starts with just acoustic guitars and vocals, sitting around and playing in his backyard, because if a band's songs sound awesome with just an acoustic, they'll sound even better once you add in instruments. That's how I feel about "Everyone Left."

Side note: although I never really dug War Paint as a whole when it came out, or anytime afterward, reading through this thread motivated me to give it a fair try again and for some reason I'm really into it. "Miscommunication" really kicked my ass.

Anyway I never really dug Golden Record either, although the "reworked" versions of songs that came with the deluxe edition were really cool. Reading through 27 pages of reminiscences from other fans has been really cool, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about TDS. And btw I legit teared up a little when I read that AJ will be releasing a new album this year...
