It's funny because the speech he gave before performing it the first time was so great it made me excited to hear it but the lyrics weren't quite what I expected based on what he said.

 

I like Sealed to Me from the live recording. Unsure how I'll feel if/when they release a new album though.

 

People who don't like lyrics on Sealed to Me? How do you feel about lyrics on Bed, Sink, In A Jar and At The Bottom?

 

Is there a generally agreed on best version of Sealed To Me? I have one from the first time they played it, but theres gotta be a better version out there

 

This version is a high quality recording, features a brief speech intro, has a respectful crowd, and incorporates the added screaming.

What's impressive is that he was sick and still knocked it out of the park.

 

This is definitely one of the best versions I've heard, and the most similar to when I saw him play it. Thanks!

 

still need to listen to Sealed to Me. I'm sure I have several live videos saved on youtube, but just kept waiting for the studio version to pop up.

 

I watched part of one live video of the song, but that's it. I'll just wait for a studio version

Same, I'm driving to Denver for the Thrice show and a few days later after I get back I have Brand New... It's gonna be a good week when it gets here

 

Of the four songs you listed, At the Bottom is the strongest lyrically, but they all have their moments where one terribly corny line threatens the strength of the entire song. I'm talking specifically of lines like "the champ goes down like a cloud in the second round" or "..withered and bony exposed for a phony." That's essentially the biggest weakness with most songs on Daisy overall. I think Vices, Bought a Bride, Daisy, & Noro have the strongest lyrics on that record.

Same thing applies to lines in Sealed to Me like " I'm working hard at being my own MVP instead of feeling lucky just to have made the team." They fall just over line into too plain for me. Ultimately though, I will end up listening to it and liking it. Same thing happened with Daisy, haha. Bed is one of my favorite songs.

Keep in mind Jesse seems to change lyrics a lot from what they are originally. Sealed To Me was performed live very shortly after its conception. I'd be willing to guess changes will be made lyrically.

 

Didn't they make lyric sheets for that song?

 

I get what you mean, I think those songs get pretty rough and was thinking the exact same moments you listed. I feel like the line in Sealed to Me is just a bit better than those though.

 

I like the MVP line in Sealed To Me because it makes me think of baseball


Sometimes I fee like people make out some Daisy lyrics to be worse than they are? :shrugs:

 

I don't mind any of the lines on Sealed to Me, but there are some on Daisy I strongly don't like. Bed and In A Jar really bug me, I don't think I ever listen to them. And I really like Sink but the "exposed for a phony" bit kills it for me.

 

I can't believe you let that one line kill the whole song.

 

The rest of the song isn't really that strong either though. It's just ok and then that line is terrible.

 

Are people starting to get their tickets? One show that I'm going to, you don't know where you're sitting until they send the tickets. That is a first for me, so I'm eager to see where I'll end up.

 

"Sink" live is incredible.

The last time I saw Brand New, me and everyone along the barrier hit our fists against the metal fence/barrier to the beat of the bass drum during the verses and it sounded like the whole venue was going to erupt.

 

Bed is a top 5 track on Daisy for me. The "champ goes down like a clown in the second round" line never really bothered me. Sink's bridge is pretty cheesy too but I don't think it kills the song and people go off for that one live.
