blink has never been a lyrically complex band, but I don't think they've ever been as distractingly bad as they've been post-reunion. Neighborhoods/California have some truly god awful moments.

 

You say that as if that thread wasn't just the same people making lists and complaining about Tom's stupid hat lol

 

Whenever we talk about Mark's poor lyrics on California I always think back to that promo video for Dogs Eating Dogs where Tom says "Mark is my favorite lyricist of all time" and I start to chuckle.

 

Even a simple song like "Go" is about being young and frustrated and angry, and it feels honest and captures an identifiable mindset without feeling like a simple reduction of what being a teenager feels like. "San Diego" isn't particularly strong lyrically, but again feels far more identifiably blink, like a whistful and aching look back, rather than "we're kids and no one understands us let's celebrate being young" like "Kings of the Weekend" or "Parking Lot". I don't want this band to keep writing "Dick Lips" over and over again. Heck, "the Party Song", "Online Songs", and "Give Me One Good Reason" come off stale and immature lyrically, and they were 15 years younger then.

 

Definitely agree about the verses carrying a NOFX vibe.

I think "Give Me One Good Reason" is their low point as far as lyrics go. Not taking joke songs into consideration.

 

It's extremely hard to get through the second verse of that song lol

 

I like that song out of pure nostalgia, but definitely agree

 

Here's a question. If you could go back and either make them rewrite or erase 3 songs from their discography which would they be?? Not counting joke songs.

Me, it'd be This is Home, Fighting the Gravity, and Give me one good reason

 

Thanks, I didn't want to keep calling him out for being a hypocrite. I'm genuinely curious how old he is too, lol. It might explain some things.

 

I might be in the minority here - but I really like "Fighting The Gravity."

I really like the new song. definitely think Matt and Travis sell it. I like Mark's verse melodically and the little beach boys oooh was great. just lyrically it's a little weak for his verse.

I totally get why it's the same producer, this is basically part 2 of California. but the next album, I would love love love Bill to produce. I adore the My Shame Is True album.

But, again, as I have pointed out to you before and obvious in the message above again you for some reason have this thing against me. You call me out on any of my opinions just because they don't match yours, twist my words, and you responded to a genuinely normal message with some kind of a jerk video yesterday; but I post a meme and my age is suddenly up for question? You have been having it out for me multiple times over the past few weeks, and I can't understand why but it's getting irritated. Again, the meme was a bit much I will admit that, but I figured fair was fair after you little video yesterday. I come here to talk Blink, not be trolled or insulted(hypocrite? Really? I haven't said anything hypocritical). And you seem to be the only one who does this; so back off.

I agree with you. Matt and Travis are the high points of the song, not saying Mark was low but yeah Matt outshines his verse on this though I enjoy his other contributions. And it makes sense that the deluxe tracks of California has the same producer so they work cohesively with the album they are extending. Bill would be great next time though, but for some reason I think Mark and Matt plan to keep Feldy.

 

I think we can dismiss the "blink has never really written great lyrics" because Mark, as an individual, has. WYHSB is a perfect example of them.

It's my favorite off that album, and I really think Mark shines on it. I love playing that, and the album in general, in the winter time
