That's what kind of weirded me out about Mark's verse. It's one thing to reminisce about old times, but he's kind of singing about the present with the reference to Matt. I mean, come on dude. I follow you on Snapchat. You're 45 and wake up at 3:30 AM. You're not still skating in a Target parking lot.

Also, "$10 to get into a fight you can't win" is a great lyric.

I hope they go with a new producer/sound on the next album. But Blink was never gonna be the same after Jerry Finn died.

He is really the only option that would ever make sense. I just don't get why they wouldn't aside from schedule conflicts. Mark loves Descendents and they are Barker's favorite band.

I saw someone make a Fat Mike reference about this song and besides my new era anti-flag comparison, I also got some "Punk Guy"/Punk In Drublic vibes

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Bill also produced the most recent Alkaline Trio album, My Shame Is True. So Matt already has experience working with him as well.

Idk if any sort of production is going to help the lyrics they've been churning out

  8. Not sure why people still like to overanalyze Blink's lyrics in 2017

Lyrics have never been why I listen to Blink-182. Certain songs have some good lyrics - but they've never been great at lyrics. They're still my favorite band though.

It's a significant part of most music, I'm not sure why they'd get a free pass?

They've definitely had some good lyrics before imo. This band isn't exempt from lyrical criticism. Compare Mark's Stockholm Syndrome verse to his verse here.

  13. I wouldn't say it's about them getting a free pass, for me it's more about going over their entire discography and accepting that they've never been strong with lyrics. Expecting a sudden change now seems silly to me

They've certainly had their share of good lyrics (particularly on Untitled and Neighborhoods; WYHSB is great in that department)... Plus the lyricism we are getting is a direct result of Feldmann's method (quantity and quickness over quality). We have all heard and read about it.

That, and when they have a running theme through an entire album and start to get very repetitive, it's hard to ignore. Just because they've never been lyrical geniuses doesn't mean it's not worth talking about. Kind of a cop out.

I don't like how bad lyrics get dismissed in the name of "fun". Like blink lyrics don't matter because they're "fun" songs.

Sorry for the 23487329846th Tom debate but I remember when the last AVA album came out and people were mocking the words on songs like Anomaly. Can you honestly say there is any difference between Anomaly and Home is such a lonely place? Because I can't. Not saying Tom's lyrics aren't terrible sometimes either because he writes 100% bullshit songs like Golden Showers but blink definitely get a fun pass from some people.

Also overanalysing everything blink do is what this thread is all about! Haha.

  18. I don't think it's fair to apply this logic to blink but not like...Macklemore. Or Bruno Mars. Both write serious songs, and both write fun/dance songs. Blink can and does the same.

"Fun" becomes a factor when that's something that is important to you, though. Blink's lyrics were always good when you were growing up because they were pretty easy to relate to most of the time. Not because they were some sort of poetry.

I think we all grade them on a curve to a certain degree. We go into it knowing they're going to be bad, but when they are REALLY bad...we can still point it out.

I'm not saying blink gets a free pass when it comes to lyrics. I think untitled is their best album because the lyrics were a huge growth for them. I just love how the band makes me feel. I do feel Feldman definitely has had an effect on the lyrics - but I trust blink.

  21. I do think Matt can totally help Mark write better songs.

They're all in their 40's. Maybe right now they just want to write fun youthful songs. Growing up sucks.

Dude, how old are you? I just saw you posting about respecting others, then you go out of your way to be a nusance to someone a moment later?

I miss the glory days of AP Blink thread. :/

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

At least with Matt's verse, Teenage Satellites and Kings Of The Weekend I get more of a nostalgic feel not I'm literally a high schooler going on his first date. Untitled will always be their peak and the band is also in a totally different (healthy) place now so that album is one big outlier to me. I think there were some good lyrics on Neighborhoods but a lot of bad ones that were trying too hard to be mature. I do feel a lot better with what they're writing now like compared to TOYPAJ. I do think there is potential for much better especially with Matt if they want to do a fully serious album but Mark just might be too fun a guy for that. I love +44 but that also came out of a darker place than he is now.

It really does feel kinda weird to be analyzing blink's lyrics this much still lol.
