The last chapters are so different from the ending of the movie that she would have still not spoiled much lol.

are we just gonna tolerate his preference of The Last House on the Left remake to its original

Apparently I only come in here to ask questions like "what movie is this from", but...

What movie is this gif (NSFW) from? Me and my co-worker were doing /giphy in Slack and this came up and we're trying to figure it out. Google suggested it was a "picture frame"...

That's one of the few cases where I totally understand preferring the remake honestly

damn seriously? I need to rewatch it but iirc it loses all the exploitative "flair" of the first and ultimately feels like an unenjoyable torture porn film

Did you like the Evil Dead remake? I'd compare it to that. It knows it can't capture the vibe so strongly associated with the original, and it doesn't try to. Instead, it just focuses on being a compelling film with its own identity

i, astonishingly, have seen neither the original Evil Dead nor its remake. i really should get around to doing that.

Last house on the left is awful. But I hate a rape and revenge plot

If I were to list my 10 favourite remakes off the top of my head, it's definitely one of the first that comes to mind

That looks like Pyramid Head chopping off the dude's arms. So one of the Silent Hill movies, not sure which one. I'd guess the 3D one, as that particular shot looks like it's kind of geared towards that.

the eyes of my mother was pretty great. the similarities to Eyes without a Face were fun to see. it played a little too fast and loose with rationale without always compensating with atmosphere, which is usually the tradeoff i need to really feel content with a film, and was a little more self-assured in its style than i think was justified, but a good, twisted time.

Wolf Creek was, idk, ok. for a movie that wants to be very realistic, it's way too flexible with the physical location of its killer - he just always manages to be where he needs to be, even when it really makes no sense. it also doesn't set itself apart from other torture porn/exploitation films too much, although it did come before they really got popular, so good for it, i guess. i dunno, for a film so notorious, i expected it to be a little less... pedestrian. which, i don't know why i would, exploitation is not known for its artistic merits, hahaha.

Watched Under The Skin last night. Really complex movie to think about, kinda like Darling. I didn't love it while I was watching it, but it has some really disorienting sequences and it stays on your mind afterward.
