Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I am loving Lucha Underground. Only four episodes in, but it's so much fun.

I'm so happy everyone is checking it out. I've already had people tell me it isn't there cup of tea, but that is perfectly fine since they actually got to check it out. I just hope Netflix pushes it instead of people needing to search for it.

I started a rewatch of Lucha because of Netflix, never got around to watching much of the most recent season. Gonna try and catch back up in time for the second half of S3.

I really really want them to succeed. I truly do. But I'd like to actually see something from someone other than the walking botchfest that is Hoho. Give us another special narrated by Shatner so I can learn about and care about these people. They keep debuting homegrown talent and I just can't care about any of them. Like, how am I going to give a shit about The Ealy Brothers or Heavy Machinery? All we've seen are squashes and know nothing about them. All we get are indie folks right now. And even they aren't progressing anywhere beyond lower midcard on NXT. We were all excited about Roddy and La Sombra and they are both dead in the water.

This turned out to be less about my marginalizing a group of Chinese athletes and more about how shit NXT development is at its job.

    Brother Gallows spills the beans.

Luke Gallows: “Southpaw Regional Wrestling is a concept of this … basically 1980s southern regional wrestling promotion or territory, and it’s a lot of stuff that the guys have been doing for years backstage to entertain each other. I know my character in particular has been an ongoing thing for the better part of a decade.

It was really us getting to kind of take the gloves off and use our… comedic style, if there is one. You’ll get the chance to judge for yourself, but you’ll see a lot of people step outside of the realm of what you’ve seen them do, character-wise, and as in-ring performers as a part of WWE. So it’s kind of a chance for everybody to let their hair down. I didn’t get to because I don’t have any, but everybody else. And we had a blast doing it, man. That thing drops tomorrow. I just watched the teaser myself, I was trying to get them to shoot me a link but they won’t do it.”

So my early impression of LU (I'm on episode 5 I think) is that it's definitely a slow start, but I understand that there are a lot of characters they're introducing. I can see why some people probably checked out early. It's fucking absurd that Ezekiel Jackson is an early big bad (and why is he wrestling in sweatshorts?!). But everything I've read says that it picks up near the end of S1 and that S2 is bananas so I'm still plowing through and stoked for what's hopefully coming soon.

Oh and I really hate the commentary team, Matt Striker has always sucked, and I love Vampiro but he's like Otunga bad

    Vampiro isn't that bad, brotha

Early on it seems like he can't decide if he's a heel or face and he totally doesn't listen to what Striker says (I wouldn't either)

I won't lie though, I was surprised when I saw chavo hit sexy star over the head with a chair. I basically just watch WWE when it comes to wrestling and not seeing that since the early 2000s was weird.

I did laugh when he hit Blue Demon like once in the head (protected) and twice in the back and he had to be stretchered out when I've seen Foley get headshotted like 30 times in a match

I think I've stuck with Lucha for about 2 months each season. Then I start missing some and they'd start piling up in the dvr and I'd never get around to it. I think now I can really give it a chance.

I wish I had the link still but there was a great Wreddit thread that listed all of the must see episodes from season 1 and listed crucial parts of other episodes that need to be watched for storyline purposes. It really helped me out getting caught up

Anyone here from the MA area? Thinking about going to the ROH Best In The World ppv in Lowell in June. Also thinking about getting the two day pass for the tv taping the next night..

Also has anyone been to an event at Lowell Memorial? Thinking of just grabbing balcony because cheap but not sure how good of a view there would be.

I'm not sure the set up there, but balcony seats are easily most ideal for me. Ring side seats always annoy me because of the assholes who won't ever sit down.

I went to an RoH house show the week after my birthday and had front row tickets right behind that shit eater Adam Cole doing commentary for an hour for the Rumble match they had that night. Literally every wrestler was within two feet of me at some point in the night and Nick Jackson handed me a slice of pizza when he entered the Rumble (came out with a sheet and was just giving them out to the whole front row). I would absolutely recommend those if you could get em. I will also say that there wasn't a single bad seat in the house: about 8 rows of seats and a GA bleacher area.
