What are the best sounding albums / tracks in your collection? • Page 2

Hell yeah, that's a really interesting podcast, I do skip some episodes sometimes, but they have most of my favorite producers listed on their website, and a few episodes have already been very informative for me - what's more, "Clarity" gets mentioned like at least 5 times on different episodes as one of the best sounding albums :)

 

It's hard for me to talk about sound production and not bring up anything Steve Wilson's done. The man is a god at mixing and mastering. If you can, try listening to any of the 5.1 surround sound Porcupine Tree material.

 

Have Mercy's A Place Of Our Own is the one that comes to mind immediately. I use "Spacecrafts" to test headphones before I buy them.

 

It's way more exciting hearing opinions about some other stuff than the same old classic albums that have been mentioned on messaging boards since the beginning of the internet. Sure, I love Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and think it sounds great - but I already know that and don't need to hear it being said over and over again.

Here is a couple of albums that I think sound great:

• Whiskeytown - Pneumonia (That opening guitar on Sit & Listen to the Rain gives me shivers everytime)
• The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
• Pinback - Blue Screen Life
• The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Harmlessness
• Punch Brothers - Antifogmatic
• Dredg - El Cielo
• Modern Baseball - You're Gonna Miss It All (This came as a bit of a surprise to me. Not the band I would imagine having a great sounding production in all its simplicity)

 

Trent Reznor's production on The Downward Spiral is just so adventurous and creative it blows my mind. I always listen to it when I need to be reminded that a record can sound however it wants to sound.
