Went by Cigar City after work again because I couldn't pass up a chance at another Humidor IPA and discovered they're selling bottle pours of Hunahpu as well. Excellent trip.

 

Currently debating how much beer I wanna take across the border next week coming back from New England. Honestly the factor isn't so much getting caught (limit being a 24 rack of 12ouncers) as it is I'll only be spending two out of the next six weeks in Halifax before I'm back for the summer, so unless I get some heavier stout/porter-like beers that aren't as urgent to drink fresh I'm thinking it might not do all that much good to bring a ton back.

 

Treating myself to this tonight for finishing coursework on my Masters Degree. Still have to write my thesis where the quality and quantity of beer will also go up from this.

 

My coworker brought me some beer from Treehouse Brewery in MA. Currently enjoying their Bright ipa. Not a huge ipa guy, but tots damn good.

 

I can't remember the names of any others I have tried as most were before I started keeping track of each new beer I drink. Honestly I would just grab one at the alehouse I usually go too because of the high alcohol percentage.

What are some other good ones that I should keep an eye out for?

 

I picked one of these up today, half because I trust Modern Times and half because of how silly the whole ordeal sounds to me. It's a barrel aged coffee stout, but it's not the beer that gets aged... it's the coffee beans haha

I just did a semi-vertical with Deschutes Abyss last weekend and I think that's an incredible beer. Bourbon County is the best barrel aged stout around, IMO, as it hits everything that I love in a stout. But those are the first two that jump to mind for me. Barrel Aged Expedition stout from Bell's should be out this year, too, in bottles for the first time. It may be limited depending on your Bells selection in your area, but any BA version of Expedition I've had -- and I've had a few -- have been absolutely killer. I enjoy Clown Shoes' barrel aged beers -- their non-stouts (like old ales) they've thrown in barrels have been great. Central Waters has had some really good ones a friend has been kind enough to bring back for me.

 

Thanks, I will have to look for some of those since I am trying to branch out from pretty much obly drinking ipad. I think the only one I wouldn't have access to is Central Waters and maybe Bourbon County.

 

It is entering the wrong time of year to be finding these stouts unfortunately.

 

Wish I could contribute to this thread more regularly, but I am doing a year without alcohol, so I am out of the loop on the latest stuff. Avery Maharaja was always one of my favorites. That and the Firestone Double Jack.

I do want to say that Three Floyds followers are the Brand New fans of craft beer. It is ridiculous how they flock in droves to any establishment putting their stuff on tap. I feel like Zombie Dust is the Soco of their lineup.

 

KBS from this year wasn't as good as usual. It has a higher alcohol % too. Drank one last night and have one to age too.

 

I don't remember seeing it so it may not have been in rotation at the time but I could be wrong. If we had stayed longer, I would have tried the Horchata Imperial Stout. Gonna see if I can find a bottle of it somewhere around here.

 

Pb milk stout is so good from them, I definitely want the horchata one too

This is the truth. I've seen so many coordinated 3 Floyds hat/shirt/hoodie combos on multiple persons hanging together at festivals and bottleshops recently. Its like they all get together and say "lets wear every bit of 3 Floyds gear we have to make sure everyone knows that we're fans."

Unfortunately, it seems that Fonta Flora is headed the same way. Once they started selling shirts online, people who have never even had their beer are buying the shirts and hoodies like crazy because FF is a hot brewery right now. I didn't get to go to Hunahpu Day but I heard FF gear was everywhere there. One of my friends was there and talked to a guy wearing a FF shirt, who had never had the beer and didn't even realize that FF was there at the festival. Its just crazy that a brewery in rural western NC, running a 3.5bbl system with virtually no distro, is this popular within its first 3 years.

 

Had this guy last night while grilling in the dark (always fun). Amazingly smooth for a 10% DIPA. Inviting tropical/citrus nose with a hint of pine and a surprisingly dry and clean body. Top notch DIPA as far as I'm concerned.

 

I think it's cool that people are that passionate, but it becomes a nightmare for locals on a normal work schedule to try their beers around here in Cleveland. People come over from Indian, PA, MI when they do a tap takeover or simply add one of the exclusive beers. My brother works for one of the local Cleveland craft brewers and their restaurant will get Zombie Dust and it's usually gone within a half hour/45 min. It's insane.

 

I don't mind Granville. I haven't tried the others you mentioned. I'll try it out. I don't think I've had a lot of Halifax brew. farmery, half pints and fort garry are manitoba beers. All very meh.

 

My minor league team has a brewery in their stadium. Had the klasch this weekend and it was really good.

Can't wait to try the rest this year.

 

Tried the Creme Brulee Stout from Southern Tier the other night, it was good! A little sweet for me, but I definitely enjoyed it.

 

Haven't seen any of those, the Halifax/Nova Scotia beer scene has really come on in the past few years, unfortunately it seems the really strict alcohol regulations out here prevents a lot of it from getting into the NSLC, so some stuff can really only be gotten at the breweries or a couple private stores, which isn't as convenient for me time or location-wise.

If you ever get a chance, I'd recommend Propeller, Gahan, Good Robot, North, Big Spruce, Uncle Leo's, and Tatamagouche. Garrison is the biggest one out here but I've been a few times to their brewery and they're really cold and off-putting, so I really don't drink their stuff anymore.

 

Went to a new brewery in Lynn, MA, called Bent Water Brewing Company over the weekend. Some solid stuff. Had a mango beer I was excited to try, but it wasn't as great as I was hoping. Their IPA was excellent, perfect for summer. They had one called a Concrete Alt Beer- dark like a stout, but was smoother. Was interesting.

 

I typically enjoy the Southern Tier stouts because they get a thickness on them that I'm a sucker for but I just can't drink the Creme Brulee. I know that all of their stouts in that vein are sweet, but CB is just on a completely other level. Sweetest beer I've ever drank and it kind of made me sick.

 

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Generally enjoy both Southern Tier beers and sweet stouts, but Creme Brulee just tastes like pure sugar to me.

 

Might have to go track this down

 

Sexual Chocolate from Foothills Brewery has got to be up there.
