The film was a nightmare to get through.
Just because a film brings up important social commentary does not make a film "good." Example, Crash. It was hardly funny, predictable, and far from a good film. Also you got me thank you for the correction.

The social commentary of Crash was good?

Yeah not sure why anyone in here would be defending Crash. Think it's a general rule of thumb that most would agree Crash is a deeply flawed film.

I actually like Crash and films like The Blindside despite its social commentary. Haha!

Well he's saying that just because there is an interesting layer of social commentary to Get Out doesn't mean it's a good film and then said it's similar to Crash in that fashion. I'm saying it's not a fair 1:1 comparison because most people agree Crash is a flawed film whereas, conversely, most people seem to thoroughly enjoy Get Out both as entertainment and for its social commentary.

I just mean that I appreciated some of the points that the film had brought up, but I was not entertained by the film, nor would I ever try to see it again. It is being praised as this brilliant film, and I think it was mostly predictable, it was far from a scary film, and in terms of the comedy in the film, it barely held up.

You said a lot but you don't at all go into why you don't like it, what you thought its flaws were. How was it like a lifetime movie? The scene by the lake?

  14. I mean the film is centered around a romance maybe? idk all i think when i think of "lifetime movies" is the bit from 30 rock where the dog shoots the lady

There was not a single point in the film where I was frightened. The acting made it seem like a lifetime film. The scene by the lake, the whole back story with the mother and how he was paralyzed by fear, the ridiculous father. It seemed like the build up of a lifetime film, then it just turned into so absurd film student project. The jokes were mostly just crude sex jokes that didn't have me laughing much. I guess I was expecting it to resemble a film like "It Follows," but I just thought there was nothing gripping about the film, I didn't leave the film thinking about anything but how badly I wanted to open the Before Trilogy I had gotten for my birthday lol.

I feel like a lot of ppl are saying it's not horror and I was at first too, thinking it was more like a thriller, but imo the horror is the racism. Like it's not "traditional" horror, but the concept and everything about it and the dark place or whatever was very horrifying so I'm claiming it!

Like imagine being trapped in ur own body as some racist white person is inhabiting it like omg

The horror also plays very differently along racial lines from my discussions. Lots of white people say it wasn't that scary.

This is a good point. I think I was expecting something of the film that it wasn't and that is why I'm not embracing it.

I'm sorry haha. Just not big on the film. But yes, the collection is so nice, they did a great job on the packaging and artwork.

The concept is terrifying and had me thinking for days. They even wrote and caste the perfect white woman who can lure me into a false sense of security.

Like I'm not horrified by the concept of The Stepford Wives, but I'm sure to many women the concept of it is really terrifying.

I will absolutely back the love for the Before trilogy (though I still hope they do a fourth one five years from now).

I have a pretty broad definition of horror, but I think this is less of a stretch than things like The Guest or Green Room. You have a character held captive by a group of hostiles, psychological manipulation, jump scares, etc. It hits the right bests
