There are some interesting examples of budget American made guitars from the late 80s/early 90s where you can get a stupid deal on the build quality. The Squires you mention are one (although, Squires from that period are kind of collectable), the other which is meant to be really nice (and an unfashionable brand and thus cheap) is the Peavey Predator. I think the pickups are meant to be a bit naff, but they had American built bodies and necks, which are supposed to be very enjoyable.

I'm sorry about bringing this up again, but I just got my copy of In Medias Res LP in the mail today and this is some of the most inventful shredding I've heard in a guitar ablum in forever

My friend and bandmate just dropped 4k on a Collings I-35. I had never heard of the brand before but it sounds absolutely amazing. Wish I had that much to drop on a guitar haha

Wow. They're pretty. I can't imagine ever being able to justify to myself spending that much. I'm embarrassed by my Fender American Standard Tele, because it's too good for a chimp like me.

That being said, I do hanker for a semi hollow body guitar. Got my eye on a Reverend Manta Ray. Although, the Guild Starfire V looks pretty lovely too. Guess I'll just to have a research trip at some point!

Manta Rays sound fantastic. I played one in a guitar shop.

I'm not shocked. I've played a couple of Reverends and they've all sounded absolutely excellent for the money.

Yo I might buy a fender marauder next week. Any of you homies have thoughts on them?

I actually love Godins, I've only had the chance to play them a couple times but I like the sound and feel

Can't decide if I want a Chris Schiflett Tele Deluxe or a Les Paul Jr with the P90.

Id be able to do a more with a Schiflett Tele but the P90 sounds soooooo good.

I'm sort of bias, but I would totally do the Schiflett Tele. I have a Tele Deluxe as well and it is incredible. It's so versatile which was perfect for me because I'm always playing a lot of different genres.

One of my friends has the Modern Player Marauder and I've played it. Personally I'm not a fan of the way it looks. But that being said I really love how it sounds

i love off-set looking fenders, so i like how it looks. has he done any mods to it, or is it just stock?

Idk what it is about the Marauder because I have a Jaguar and I love how that looks haha. But yeah his is stock everything. The combination of the "triplebucker" and JM pickup in the neck is really awesome.

If you want one, you might have to hurry. I don't think they make them anymore. Can't offer any advice about them otherwise though. I don't know if I've ever even seen one in person.

Yup, totally adore them. Had the pleasure of playing the Multiac, Multiac ACS-SA, and the Jazz (my favorite). If I were ever to make it and tour the world playing acoustic style guitar, I'd probably bring along a Godin and a spruce top Kremona.

Go have a good play on it. It's right at the budget end of Fender's line. I can't remember if I saw a review which suggested that the trem was a bit crap (I cannot remember where I saw that, so take it with a pinch of salt).

If you're after one of their offsets, maybe see if you can play the Marauder against one of their new Mexican offset range at the same time.

I played it on Saturday and I also played a Jaguar blacktop. I actually really liked the feel of the marauder. As for the trem system, I'm going to block it off anyway with a little piece of wood to fix it in place anyway. I do a decent amount of tuning changes so having a floating bridge isn't my thing.
Honestly one of my biggest reasons for being very interested in this marauder, is its price. I play a telecaster deluxe and I also had a regular telecaster alongside it, but the telecaster wasn't mine, it was my uncles and after a couple years of me "borrowing" it, he asked for it back haha. I play in a band and I need two guitars, but I'm on a budget.
I played the marauder and was pleased with how it felt and sounded. I figured "okay this Jaguar blacktop feels good too - but it's like 150-200 dollars more. I know that between both those guitars, i would probably make modifications to both in the future. So why get the more expensive one if I know I'm going to upgrade it and have it cost even more"
Basically my plan with getting the marauder is that every couple months I'll be able to do little upgrades on it. But hey, who knows, there's a chance I bring it to band practice and I like it stock for the most part.
ALSO, the place I'm buying it from is 30% all guitars right now, so it is a ridiculously affordable price.

Seems fair logic. Just have to hope that the parts on the Marauder aren't bespoke, as upgrading it might be a total pain if they've fitted unusual parts. But then, if it's that cheap, I suppose you won't be quite so precious about doing weird stuff to it. :crylaugh:

Thoughts on Chapman guitars? I went to an event where they brought their guitars and I liked them but they totally redid their line for 2017 so I have no idea how those compare to the ones I played.

    Also somewhat related

Nah, I've read a lot of forums the past few days on people totally modding Marauders so I think mods are done pretty easy on it
