Why should Giggs be the barometer of what manager is in charge of us? Sam Allerdyce couldn't be any worse than Giggs, but he's not and should never be an option.

Do you think it's really about quality or reputation though? I get the impression that Moyes stuffed it partly because he inherited a squad which had badly suffered a lack of investment and on top of that, was dealing with some serious egos. No one could argue with Ferguson, but I imagine a few players knew they could make Moyes pretty temporary if they wanted.

Same as what has happened to multiple managers at Chelsea.

Who do you actually want in charge?

I do not think Moyes was good enough to manage Manchester United, no. His biggest failing was not recognising that and trying to change the club from top to bottom. He completely changed the training structure, pointed out by Rio. Tried to change the culture of the players, pointed out by a number of players. He completely changed the backroom staff bringing in people that just weren't good enough and got rid of a ton of backroom experience because he wanted total control over everything.

He was tactically naive and was fucking useless in the transfer market. We had a number of players lined up to join that summer, one being Thiago if you believe Spanish journos, but pulled the plug on them and spent all summer chasing unobtainable targets like Fabregas and left us paying over the odds for Fellaini. He was an absolute disaster on every single level. Moyes had money on hand, as shown by that January and the following summer HE didn't use it and did not use it adequately (he's known as dithering Dave for a reason). If a manager can't handle egos, he is not worth his salt as a top manager. He tried to coddle a number of players like Nani and Rooney that have MASSIVELY backfired. So much wasted money after he signed them up to 5 year contracts. It really cannot be stated how much of an absolute disaster that man was for our club.

I want Poch. I don't want Mourinho because I think he's despicable but the utter crap being thrown up since Fergie makes me want a winner. Just not Mou...

I've got a friend who is a Liverpool fan and he dreads the idea of you getting Mourihno. Not because he hates him or any other complaint about his often terrible public persona, but because he's frightened that you won't stop winning. :D

What hurts more: £27.5m for Fellaini or £60m for Di Maria?

    @fangclubb Prestigious

Fellaini. He stuck around like a bad smell, at least we recouped most of Di Maria's money, and he was very good for 6 months ish.

The league is going to be as strong at the top as it has been in a long time, next year. We're looking at Guardiola, Wenger, Klopp, Conte, and potentially Mourinho all managing in the same league together.

Di Maria is worth that kind of money, tbh.

Di Maria is world class on his day. At a different time, with a different manager, it could easily have worked out for him here.

I think there's a very strong argument to be made that Argentina would've won the World Cup had Di Maria not been injured in the knockout rounds.

(Or if Higuain could finish in a big game. Would've been 2-0 before halftime if he had finished his sitters, but that's way less hypothetical.)

Really? I remember one of the knockout games where he played the whole match, as well as extra time. He scored the winner in the end, but he was absolute garbage all match. I can't remember who it was against though.

That was against Switzerland I think. He was super wasteful that day, I think he set a record for most amount of times he lost possession or something, but made the difference when it mattered!

The thoughts of Rojo being a world cup winner is hilarious.

We're being linked with Ibra and Manolas, two players Mourinho was interested in. Journos putting two and two together?

Didn't he get injured in the Switzerland game? I remember him being the "will he or won't he play" for the final, and I think even the semifinal. A lot like Diego Costa was that year Atletico made the UCL final.

Can you argue that he made the difference when it mattered when he wasted so many moments which would have mattered just as much? ;-p

I'm not sure. I just remember him being really noticeably abject that match. I don't remember Argentina being especially good that tournament. Messi absolutely hauled them out of the group from what I remember. He dug them out with a couple of absolute world beaters and then it took extra time to dispatch Switzerland...

Looking up crap World Cup winners, I was surprised to see that Kleberson is still playing for Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL. I assumed he'd have retired years ago. Not only is he a World Cup winner, he also has an assist in the final.

Of that Brazil squad that won in 2002, him, Kaka and Lucio (with Goa) are the only ones still playing football.

Of England's squad in 2002, Ashley Cole, Wes Brown and Joe Cole are the only ones playing.

I wonder if anyone that played in the 98 World Cup is still playing now...

Looked it up. He tore a muscle against Belgium in the quarterfinals.

    There is!

Brownie points if anyone can name anybody who played in France 98 and hasn't retired already. There's at least one, but may be more.

My initial thought when I read your post was "I think Buffon would've been at least on the bench for Italy by then" and my second thought was "Maybe Klose?"
