"I don't find her attractive, so all of those shots didn't draw me in like they may have drawn in others."
"My point, from a guy's POV, is if you're trying to show off the "assets" of a female (or even male, see Zac Efron) character, something should be there to look at."
"Way too much time was spent focusing on her non-existent ass. It just made no logical sense. "

"Me being attracted to Lively has nothing to do with my irritation of sex in modern movies. I wouldn't have "liked it better" if I found her attractive...since that's what you're alluding to."

Your posts in this thread are very borderline to over the line right now ... please be aware of what you're saying cause it's definitely coming across badly.

anyway i should probably watch The Shallows, been meaning to. paradoxically i think there's not too much to do with aquatic horror without straight up going to the middle of the ocean (and then the options are bottomless, pun intended) but i'm also incredibly afraid of the water so maybe it'd just work for me haha

What? It was a terrific sequel. That score. Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Imogen Poots. Fuck, the opening sequence still give me chills.

The opening was great, I do agree there. But I'll never forgive them killing infected with a helicopter propeller. Just way too over the top for me.

My short film, Trouser Snake, is nominated for Best Short Film at the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. If you like what you see, please consider giving it a vote.

Either way, you should vote for the awards in general (there's a ton of categories) because it's a really cool, long-running award ceremony that celebrates the genre.

maybe unpopular, but i think 28 Days Later works better for me as the cultural milestone that rejuvenated the zombie film and popularized the tropes as we know them currently. it's not a bad movie at all but it wasn't as compelling as I thought it would be, and i think it's cause it ultimately uses ideas that we now take for granted as overdone. also, iirc, the alternate ending storyboard Boyle talks about in the special features was a more intriguing way to take the film.

i initially liked it quite a bit, but watching it this past time, it just fell flat for me. i found it to be boring and drab and i couldn't wait for it to end. and tbh i think it has everything to do with what you were talking about. idk if there's a way i can appreciate a film like that now and that makes me sad because it's a fine film

yeah - the idea of a desolated public space, the "humans are the real evil," fast zombies, the twist of a significant character becoming infected - those are all tropes that i think either didn't exist or weren't as popular pre-28DL that now we roll our eyes and are like oh of course.

i'm a little lukewarm on Danny Boyle, i like Shallow Grave and this well enough but i don't think they're insanely engrossing movies or indicative of next-level directing. i do think he's got a good idea for interesting stories, though. havent seen Trainspotting which i think i'd probably quite like though.

e: i should say i'm not super well read on zombie horror, it's one of my less favorite subgenres, so this could all be straight out my ass. but my rough understanding of its history led me to understand the film in this context. lmk if thats the case and youre a zombie stan who wont stand for misinformation

i have never been a huge fan of his. Trainspotting might be his best tho. Sunshine is decent. he's just not for me, really.

  15. I thought I'd check out Clown, for an Eli Roth movie I actually liked it. I mean it wasn't great, but I thought the concept was pretty cool.

Yep. I love the aesthetic in the Scott/Cameron Alien movies so much. It's not consistent to every film(3, Resurrection, AVP etc.), but just the tone is so lush. I can't describe it. The first time I saw Alien and Aliens I was in love with the world/environments. It's something they're returning to with Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant. I love it.

May was pretty good, but it spent a little too long just being socially weird instead of developing the story. like, i think more could have been done with her doll, the blind kids subplot didn't seem to go anywhere, and i think the film spent a lot of time just being like "isn't May awkward." the ending was pretty great, though.

the Shallows, on the other hand, was, like... not good. its use of technology felt pretty hamfisted, and only having one character meant that there was no natural way to narrate without the film just having Blake Lively talk to herself. there just wasn't enough going on, either - which was kind of my original fear, you need some more groundwork to make a film about a single character getting attacked by a shark an engaging hour and a half, especially if the shark is just... a shark. which is probably why there was so much slow-mo.

i cracked the fuck up when the shark literally got lit on fire for some reason, and also when it deepthroated coral when Blake juked it.

i think Frozen is an example of environmental horror done much more brutally and with more grit. you gotta really get your teeth into it. i wanted to see a seagull picking at her necrotizing limb. i wanted her to watch a friend she cared about get dismembered by a shark. you can't put dubstep in your film, god damn it, you gotta make it count.

e: wait this is the guy that directed the house of wax remake?? my heart is broken
