Carried away with what? It's a fact that blink is taking a lot more of Matt's time than they initially thought. The quotes not out of context at all. They told me as much to my face. There's no panic, just unease about the wait.

 

I think they can have the record out by the end of this year. It's not like Matt takes breaks and I'm sure as soon as the European tour is over, they'll get to recording. Like MAYBE Matt takes a week off. At most lol. And you have to figure Dan and Derek have a bunch written and Matt's said he's written for Trio while on tour. I honestly didn't think blink would play bigger than small arenas like 10k max without Tom. Nobody expected this response. And Trio will have a ton of new fans for the next album. Which I'm fine with every bit of extra attention they'll get.

 

Where did Matt say he had Trio material written while on tour ?

 

They are very unease about the wait, the last time I talked to Derek he said he wasn't sure when they would start the new album. That was back in October.

 

Blink allows Matt to probably support himself more than Alkaline Trio does unfortunately, I get why he'd want to make blink more of a priority and don't blame him at all. I hope he does manage to get some time to record and do a tour though

 

It's not that Matt doesn't care about Trio it's that he's obligated by contract to finish the Blink tour cycle

 

In one interview I'm pretty sure he said he was writing or going to write during the blink tour. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't write, I know he reads a ton so I'm sure he finds plenty of inspiration. Seems like he finds lots of Trio material in books

 

Blink will probably take the whole next year off aside from a few festivals so I think Fall/Winter we'll see the return of Alk3

 

Yeah I think blink's huge success with their album really put Trio stuff on the backburner. I can't really blame Matt, he's making life changing money by being in blink and doing things he wouldn't be able to do by just being in Trio. I'm sure Trio will record at the end of the year but it seems like, this is obviously total speculation on my part, a lot of uneasiness in the Trio Camp with Dan and Derek waiting around for Matt to be ready.

 

I sure could use some new Trio in my life right about now.

 

It's going to be about 4 years since My Shame came out. That's a good while. I'm sure Dan is getting tired of doing these solo tours to kill time.

 

I'm surprised he hasn't just up and done another solo album or EP at this point.

 

Me too, I feel like he probably will if nothing goes on with Trio.

Well I mean I assume he'll still be missing his band? Unless you think by that point he'll have moved on to "fuck my band" which I doubt lol

 

Not at all, but man I'd laugh if he said that lol. I don't know what if this next Trio album really is the last ? With the type of machine that Blink is it really could be.

 

Yeah, I could definitely see it being the end. I could also see no album coming. I could also see multiple albums coming.

 

This thread is starting to get to dangerous levels of speculation = assumptions. None of us know what's going on, not sure it's useful to make so many guesses and assumptions of how Dan or Matt are feeling

 

Idk I think Matt will always have two bands, I haven't seen any indication of him wanting to take a break from music and blink will always have a break after a cycle. I mean if Trio ends I could see it because Dan and Derek are just impatient I guess? But when the time comes for Matt to make his music, I don't know why he wouldn't want it to be for Trio ya know? Hopefully it evens out that with a little more downtime for Trio, it's offset by them maybe getting more attention and success from here on out. This was a long break since it had already been two years when Matt joined blink but hopefully Trio gets on a more regular schedule after the Europe tour this summer. Maybe the next Trio record does really great and blink has to be the ones to say "ok you guys should ride this cycle a little longer" lol.

 

As long as it never reaches "I bet I know all the specifics in the legal agreements between Tom and blink and when Tom is legally allowed to return" levels of speculation. But yeah unfortunately people are going to start running with this "I miss my band" thing from Dan now and assuming things from there.

 

To add some light to this conversation since its bumming me out....I found this gem at a local record shop and bought it off them for $15. Threw it in this cheap frame until I get a decent one. They also threw in a poster of them on the cover a AP magazine but it was ripped.

 

I just don't want this thread to turn into the Blink thread, hah

 

And we all know what a big fan Mark is of the Trio, so I think he wants Matt to bust out a new Trio album aha.
