The only Bayside albums I've listened to are the self-titled, TWW, and Killing Time. Never got into them much tbh. I don't mind them, but they don't do anything that I find particular interesting. Maybe that's on me.

I just remember when they released Pigsty as a single for Cult and a friend of mine at the time was gushing with love for it and Anthony Raneri's lyrics. I listened to the song and couldn't help but say "Sounds like Bayside"

 

The band that always comes to mind that stays right in the sweet spot is Jimmy Eat World. I agree than Beach House is there, and I think Less Than Jake is there too. Bayside and NFG are the best examples of a band getting really stale, and TWY have kinda joined that group too.

 

NOFX haven't changed their sound one iota since the early 90s - a dozen albums later I still love checking out of any of their new stuff. If it works, it works. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for something familiar and safe.

NOFX is another one. Obviously whatever a band wants to put out is their prerogative, but it just leaves me with such a "what's the point?" feeling when I couldn't even tell you what album is playing without looking at song titles.

Nah I can def see where you're coming from. Don't totally agree with your points about each individual record but I think our general thoughts on where they are now are about the same.

 

I think Silverstein's a great example of a band who stays pretty firmly in their sound and I am a-ok with it. Each album is distinctive enough for me and if there's something I don't like, it's usually because it's a stylistic thing I don't dig as opposed to boredom.
I would also agree the last few bayside albums are zzzzzz.

 

I mostly agree, except for Rescue which I thought was bland as hell.

 

I liked rescue quite a bit but it is bottom half for me. This last one was the main let down for me. They have a remarkable up-down cycle going.

 

The Hold Steady comes to mind for me.

 

I think this is the first time I've ever seen you say that you just straight up hate a band

 

I liked the last one a lot actually, I think the last two may be my favorite albums from them.

It is kind of a rarity, huh? I also despise Fergie and Puddle of Mudd. But usually I'm more the take-it-or-leave-it type.

Heard "My Sacrifice" on the radio for the first time in a decade and it kinda held up. Said as much to my girlfriend in the passenger seat. Likely that I will soon be single again.
