They're not going to beat them with a rookie next year (or for the next 3-4 years) either. You can fill out the bench with all the veterans who will be bought out in the next month. There are a lot of vets who would be intrigued with the Celtics.

    plz get jimmy butler

  4. Yall have to remember that Boston's bench is not very deep nor particularly good. I really don't think we can afford to do any trade involving 2 or 3 bench dudes for a starter

That's a pretty good haul for Nerlens if you ask me. Of course we'll see what the protections on the pick are.

EDIT: Nevermind, top 18 protected. We'll see what happens with Bogut too. Buy out maybe.

the heat had no bench, just saying. Also Cavs hardly do.

I guess I think way too highly of Butler in that he's worth losing whatever picks + 1 bench player ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sixers obviously aren't getting that pick this year so the protections beyond this year are crucial

But at this point, it was very clear they were not interested in playing Noel and Embiid together, so they may as well trade him for what you can get

nah, Celtics fans are just very emotional

  13. Why would you..........

If we're not beating either of teams in either of those situations, why would you give up young guys in favor of vets who got bought out? And then by the time we can beat them Butler or PG are almost or over 30 and those vets are retired? Versus having prime Crowder and a grown bench?

It would be kind of hilarious if Anderson has a nice turn around like Crowder did.

  15. This will be relevant when we have LeBron, otherwise it is not at all

the idea is that with Love out PG or butler could get you the no. 1 seed/assure the 2 seed

  19. Y'all acting like Butler hasn't been acting like an asshole all season and like the Boston media won't literally destroy him for that like they have any number of other athletes

My point is, you have a better opportunity of beating the Cavs (which again, I'm a Cavs fan, I don't think it matters what you do, Boston won't beat Cavs in any situation) with IT, Horford, Butler/George than you do with those 2 and some 18-year-old rookie who knows nothing about winning in the NBA. In the playoffs, you don't need a deep bench. Some teams go down to a 7-man rotation once the playoffs start. Boston is only 3 games back of the Cavs and the Cavs are without Love and JR likely til the playoffs and the Cavs have made it known they'll rest LeBron down the stretch. This is probably the BEST opportunity for Boston to get the No. 1 seed.

Just my take from an outsider.

  21. Right, so then what, we win this year after after getting the 1 seed and then PG leaves and we've lost our pick and some of our promising young guys. And then for next 3-5 years we're trying to get back to a winning spot. Sounds a lot like 2008 and I really don't think that's what Danny's going for. We've already done that. He's trying to build a dynasty.

And also, we have to remember that this rebuild is already way way ahead of schedule. On paper we have no business competing this season. There's no reason to jump the gun and make a reckless trade to try to win in a year when no one was planning on competing. It would be a damn shame to be looking at the league in a few years when LeBron retires and the Warriors have broken apart and not be able to be competing then.

so if the mavs keep their pick the dixers get no pick at all?

  23. My point is exactly that we won't beat the Cavs in any situation and shouldn't be making trades based on increasing chances from 5% to 15% or something.

Dude, Boston won 48 games last season then went out and signed Horford. What do you mean no one was planning on competing? I'm pretty sure most NBA writers and analysts were predicting Boston to be very good this year. I agree with you that Boston's chances of beating Cleveland in any scenario is extremely small, but if your Boston's Front Office, you're thinking the opposite. You're not planning for your future when you're on pace to win 55+ games and have a real shot to get the No. 1 seed in the East and have the chance to secure a certified all-star right now. You have no idea what the no. 2 or 3 pick will be. Could be the next Anthony Bennett, could be the next LeBron. Point is, you don't know. You DO know what you're getting in Butler or George and most teams would love to have that opportunity to get them.
