So. This album finally hit me in a good way today.

I think the biggest thing working against it (for me) is his previous work being so superior.

This is a really solid, above average alt pop record with some massive hits. I really like it.

I would probably like it even more f this was my first exposure to him.

Finally listening to this. I'm not huge on anything so far except shot out of a cannon, which is massive and shoulda been a single over like Brooklyn or so close

After spending some more time with this, I really only enjoy about 50% of this. About where I was with his AMitW debut. Meh.

The only single I'd heard from this before hand, for the record, was fire escape, which i didn't like til i wa subjected to it daily at work. Birthday song is cool too. I'm not in love with this, but it'll probably grow on me. Not thinking there's anything as good as high dive on here tho

Although I like this album, it's definitely the lower end of my ranking with People And Things

Maybe it's because I've been listening to a lot more pop the past few years, but this is easily the most I've enjoyed an album from him since Glass Passenger, probably even Everything in Transit.

I'd say since EIT, everything is at a pretty even level, I don't think any of those records stand out much above the others. That's not to say they're bad, I think they're all pretty good. EIT crushes everything else he's done though.

High dive, cecilia, black and white movies, maps for the getaway, and halls are all better than anything on this record.

I think I'd take Dead Man's Dollar and Love and Great Buildings over any of those. I reaally don't like Halls. All Our Lives might be the best song between the two records though.

I have been a fan of all of Andrew's work over the years and I think this album in terms of timing will resignate with his audience extremely well. There are not many pop artists that are writing lyrics about dare I say "adulting". Loving this album a lot and cannot wait to see how this translates live. I wonder if they will bring out Bobby Raw on this tour, who did some of the guitar work for the album.

I couldn't fucking believe that when I heard it. "we're struggling coming up with an infectious hit, so we'll just sample a song everyone on earth has heard" :-|

Also, I can't believe people don't like Halls. That one is great.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but the transition in "Walking In My Sleep" from whispering back to the chorus sounds so corny and awkward IMO. The "Sleeep" comes in way too strong and doesn't even seem natural. I know bands do vocal takes in chunks all the time for recording, but it's awkwardly obvious in that part. Maybe it's just me, but it makes me cringe every time

You say it's "obvious" that they're separate vocal tracks, but that implies that they were trying to hide it. Which I don't think is the case..

Overlapping same-person vocal tracks and harmonies are ridiculously common today.

That's actually one of my favorite parts of the song haha

I'm not saying they're trying to hide it perse, just that normally it sounds more natural.
