White Pony and Diamond Eyes are good starting points, I'd say.

When the moody/atmospheric part occurs in Acid Hologram, and the guitars cut out I'm like:scream::sly::embarrassed::hearteyes:

Bro not everyone was there on the ground floor like youuuuuu! Didn't you say you saw them play to 6 people in a cafe one time?

  7. I've probably listened to Like Linus twice in my entire life.

    hmmm

That's because it's a bootleg of demos that fans put together. It doesn't count.

The second half of this album is just too good. After my fourth listen I'm willing to say this is up there with AtF and WP.

I would start with Diamond Eyes or White Pony.

  12. KNY is climbing my list of favorite deftones albums. I don't remember why I wrote it off when it first came out.

"Rubicon" is such a perfect closer. I'm in love already.

Agreed. Their closers and usually the 2 songs leading up to it are always the highlight of the album for me. The string of Gore, Phantom Bride, and Rubicon is unreal. Up there with just about any other 3 song succession.

Man, this band can still bring it more than twenty years into making albums. So cool to see.

For me, this album feels the most "sludgy" of anything they've done in recent years, yet still soaring and epic. Such a cool mix.

I wouldn't say I particularly "love" Gore, but this is a Deftones album so I'm sure it'll grow on me. It's far from anything bad, by any means, but it's still not on par with their last couple of albums in my opinion. My least favorite album is SNW and this is still a much better record than that.

Haven't really dissected what the lyrics mean exactly on Rubicon, but I fucking love how reflective they are of the music-- especially at the end of the song:

    The record's ours to break
    And the more we build
    The crowd goes wild...

*cue fake ending.... cue building intensity.... end*

I still haven't been able to listen to this album with headphones and no distractions. Looking forward to doing that tomorrow.

Finally bought this and listened to it. Holy hell that was good. "Acid Hologram", "Xenon", "Phantom Bride", and "Rubicon" all blew me away. Overall this is probably in my top 3 Deftones records, along with White Pony and Koi No Yokan.

I agree with all that. It really is a perfect mix of songs. Looking forward to reading your write-up later.
