Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

My main issue with Tidal Wave is that it feels really unbalanced. The first half is fantastic, but the back end of the record is such a drag for me. When they played it in full on the Tidal Wave tour, I vivdly remember I just spaced out on the last few tracks. Just not the kind of stuff I look for from them I guess. TAYF on the other hand, while it doesn't have the pacing issues I find in Tidal Wave, I can see how 15 years after its release you could look back on it and say it didn't age well. Its melodramatic and has plenty of other issues for sure, but if I said it wasn't catchy as hell or a fun listen all the way through, then I'd be lying. I also only listen to it in full 3 times a year at most at this point just because I've heard it so much, Id rather spend my time with other stuff

Not that this was their intent, but I feel if a band this established can create an album with a couple of bonafide crowd pleasers (which Tidal Wave has in my opinion) to include in their sets, it's a net win for everyone.

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

I agree, it definitely serves its purposed and there are some jams on it (Tidal Wave, Death Wolf, All Excess). I don't think its bad as a whole just has some stuff that doesn't catch me. I just look at it the same way as I have with the S/T and Happiness Is; Theres some songs I love and some that just don't do anything for me. If they continue to make records like that, I won't complain because at the end of the day its still new content from them and I'll be happy with them making music as long as they can keep it up.

The band is extremely constricted as to how many chances they take now. Adam does not even remotely have the range or creative lyrics he used to. I'll give you that TAYF isn't mind blowing, but to act like any of the last three albums hold a flame to WYWTB is absurd in my eyes. Again, opinions. But if it wasn't taking back Sunday, the type of music they're doing now would be completely dismissed.

The last four are right there with WYWTB for me, especially s/t & TW

Then that has to come down to my first response, matter of opinion. Cause I truly love TBS, I'm a huge fan of everything Nolan has done outside of TBS, and nothing except Flicker, Fade has been returnable for me. Some songs were ok, but nothing I felt caught by. I truly think that the band is happy, doing what they want, and are trying something different with each release. But by no means do I think the past 3 albums have been creative, fun, enjoyable or hard hitting. Everything TBS once was and got them to stardom-wise.

WYWTB is pretty great. Probably my favorite release, lyrically. Adam might have been at his peak there (New Again is close though.)

I definitely return to WYWTB more than TAYF.

I gotta disagree with the last part. From some conversations I've had with work buddies and the like, some people still think of TBS as one of those emo bands they associated with the shittier bands of that scene. maybe them having a fresh start and not being associated with that particular scene would get their music to a wider, but different audience.

They typically do a great job of bringing a good mix of the material to their setlists. Besides playing TW in full of course, but it looks like from the holiday show their sets are back to being well balanced.

double posting but gotta say every time I go back to New Again I'm always impressed by Adam's lyrics there. Carpathia and Everything Must Go ends the album on such a dark note.

New Again is my favorite TBS album, by a pretty wide margin. I like all of their albums, but visit New Again the most. Tidal Wave might take that spot eventually, we'll see.

Not including Live at Orensanz, because that's actually the album I listen to the most.

I really love Live at Orensanz as well, and it is up there with my favorites. The song renditions are phenomenal, and it's the last time Adam sounded really great to me.

I'd take both of the live albums they did with Fazzi over any live releases they've put out with Fred and John. Orensanz is one of their best releases, studio included, and the Live from Bamboozle digital album they did from that era was also really solid. Fazzi's backing vocals are such a treat, it's a shame we didn't get to hear more of him on New Again.

Wonder what happened with the Louder Now repress. I'm certain I saw TBS tweet about it last year saying Warner Bros was going to repress all three of those albums.
