Becoming a fine dining server has turned me into such a foodie. Going to Spoon and Stable Tuesday, reso made for Travail in mid-March, can't fucking wait.

 

Haven't been to Spoon & Stable yet; has their reservation wait time dwindled from being months-long yet?

 

For Saturday nights, no. Still seems to take that long

 

There's not an open Friday/Saturday (that I could see) through May. That being said, I went in this morning and got a spot for 9:30 next Tuesday.

My buddy and I are going to try and wait in line the week that Grant Achatz is there for the Synergy Series (which, if you don't know, now you know) to try and get his single bar-specific course. Also fully expecting him to stay at Hewing (where I work) while he's here which is exciting too.

 

Is their food really that fantastic? I've seen their menu and didn't see anything too amazing-sounding

 

I can't speak to it personally, but everyone I wrk with (who I respect in this field, BOH higher-ups, etc) basically calls it the gold standard. Sure it's new American, French-inspired, but like, that's the mold for a reason y'know? It might not read as the most modern or exciting menu but I bet the ingredient quality and dish coherence are just unfuckingbelievable, haha

 

Gotcha; that's my feeling regarding 112 Eatery. Not the biggest or most explosive menu, but all the food tastes fucking amazing. Might have a "first date" coming up soon, so might take her there

have a buds improv show tomorrow night at HUGE theater, then saturday night if i can shake my old man syndrome i have been having lately maybe go to the VFW hall for dre day, haha.

a couple friends and i are going to play some pick up basketball outside in the afternoon, what a time to be alive

 

I work every evening the rest of this week in a place with a great view full of people talking about the great weather, neither of which I ever really get to experience, haha.

 

For real, though, what's a weekend?

 

I can't lie, though, I love having my weekend be Mondays and Tuesdays. The city's just as awesome and like a quarter as many people using it.

 

to be honest ideally for me i think a sunday and monday off would be great, just because you still get part of the weekend, but also have monday which if you are running and errands and what not it would be less calm to do during the week.

 

I would agree if not for the fact that the restaurant will usually do slightly better on Sundays then the next two days. My personal situation works out perfectly, but I think you're right on the whole.

 

I just moved here! Any good reccommendations for food and drink on my first weekend actually living here? I've been here a few times recently but would love to hear some reccommendations!

 

Welcome here! I'd say start at the beginning of this thread, as various people recommend all kinds of places around here, but I'd say start with something simple, yet tasty, and that would be the Blue Door, for the best burgers in the Twin Cities. They have three locations, all with roughly the same menu. Downtown Minneapolis, Brits Pub is a favorite of mine; few blocks away is The Local, an Irish Pub. I'll let the others recommend some more, but those are favs for quick/fairly cheap eating to start

 

Thank you! I'm coming from NJ/NYC and i'm so excited to check everything out. My girlfriend is also coming this weekend so I am taking her up to duluth and along that drive to Palisade Head this weekend.

I made reservations (but will adjust based on what you all recommend) at 112 Eatery and Copper Hen.

What other cool bars are around? I haven't been to many places other than XL and the science center -- as well as a mexican place in Lyn Lake

112 Eatery is fantastic; can't go wrong there. Best bars are probably in Northeast Minneapolis and in Uptown

GF and I broke up Sunday so the roommate and I are going to Spoon and Stable now, which is actually going to be really awesome I think.

Any recommendations on the menu? I don't drink so cocktails need not apply.
