If the rumor he's gonna show up an non-major PPVs is true, I'd actually be down with him retaining through Summerslam. Especially if KO is US title holder after WM. It basically mean KO is the main event of RAW again, and Brock is the side-show still.

But there's a 99% chance its ROman or Braun that goes over. Hoping for Braun, just because if they build him as a title winning monster early, he can go ahead and lose as many matches after, he's still a believable threat. Whereas a guy like Rusev, who never hit the mountaintop, you never see him as more than midcard

And if they put Finn over Lesnar, well, then good on Brock for accepting that booking

 

Today's Mania rumors from cageside seats

Rumors for the Day:

• The backstage bump Maryse took during the Nikki Bella/Natalya interview at Elimination Chamber and John Cena’s pin of The Miz in the main event will indeed be the set-up for WrestleMania 33’s mixed tag.
• It’s possible the SmackDown Women’s title won’t be defended at Mania, but Naomi will likely still carry it into Orlando for a tag match with Becky Lynch against Alexa Bliss & Mickie James.

 

the second one is INCREDIBLY stupid if true. Naomi is gonna basically have the longest reign with that belt by default? If she's not gonna drop it until the PPV after WM...

 

with a brand split, it's pretty much a given there's going to be a few belts not defended at mania. In my dumb head, I thought they were going to give that moment to Becky or something...but nah

yup all the meltzer rumors are coming true. Shane vs AJ is happening.

 

Wrestlemania is like 8 hours now. No reason every belt couldn't be defended if they wanted to.

 

Im fine with them not defending every belt. For example, Smackdown tag belt doesnt need to be defended...have Revival show up after WM to kick that off.

But at some point they have to give Becky a moment at a big show. She took the loss at SS, loses every PPV...thats gotta be building for some big moment eventually.

 

Every belt is kinda overkill so them leaving a midcard or two off is completely fine

 

i would leave off the smackdown tag belts the us belt and cruiserweight belt off the main show and have them on the pre show

I dunno - how many belts do we have? 9? They could probably fit all those in - especially since the IC and/or US belt matches could be multi wrestler matches

I could see the Raw women's belt being a fatal four way too

 

Also there is big money to be made with going with Bray as a face champion - please let him defeat a heel orton at mania please

Good - fatal four way would be dope

So would a ladder match for the cruiserweight belt

 

I hope they start building to Cedric winning soon.

 

I feel like Jericho drops the US belt to Sami and we'll have that be the ladder match, though Cruiserweight ladder match would be awesome. I also wonder what Finn does, should be back soon and with the huge push he was getting pre-injury I figure they'd like him on the card somewhere.

 

I really don't think Taker is gonna wrestle this year. He is just too shaky from his hip surgery still.

 

Useful to see it with numbers, also with the knowledge that, including the preshow, there were 12 matches last year, including 2 30 min matches and a bunch of 10-15min matches (and the Rock talking segment that was technically a 6s match). So max is probably 13 matches, considering Shaq/Show and Lesnar/Goldberg will probably be <5min matches.

Gotta assume the RAW tag division gets a match. And the cruiserweights get at least 1 match in some form, whether as a standard match or ladder match. Unless both mid-card belts become like 6-7man matches, a lot of people are gonna get left off the card.

Right now, about 2/3 of the Smackdown Roster isnt involved in anything because their womens and tag division have nothing planned.

 

I'm also going to guess the UK belt is defended at Takeover.

 

I'm nervous for him just trying to picture him out there...based what I saw in the Rumble.

 

There are 9 belts....plus taker, plus hhh/rollins, plus aj/shane, plus cena NikkI miz Maryse, plus battle royal, and we're already at 14 matches.

Think about it...even before the brand split there were belts left off. The new day didn't defend the tag belts last year...the us belt was on the pre show... this is with there only being 5 belts in the company and having an obnoxious run time.


It's not happening. There isn't time.

 

WHAT ABOUT THE ROCK GUYS

 

I never said they were going to and I wasn't arguing. Just said if they really WANTED to, they'd be able to since they make the rules now with time restraints.

 

Gillberg has apparently been getting pitches to return in this storyline somewhere...

 

You guys are kinda overblowing the belt thing. Wrestle Kingdom had 8 title matches and three other matches. two matches ran 25 minutes, and another was 46 minutes.

To say that they are going to run short on time is insane.

 

wrestlemania will run all night if they have to

 

Well the battle royale will have a good mix of raw and smackdown wrestlers I'm sure
