    Doing fine. Prestigious

Great trailer. Seems similar to 10 Cloverfield Lane in that it seems like the threat outside is secondary to the interactions of the people isolated together. At least that one as the impression I got.

It's the perfect level of obscure where nobody cares about it because it's not very good, but nobody cares about it because it's also not very special or prone to a cult following. I live for the horror movies nobody gives a shit about

I'm thinking the same thing. I thought I had seen every "one location" horror film. Stoked to watch this!

The People Under the Stairs was fun. Wes Craven loved those bonkers families creating nightmare scenarios. also i love that Nadine and Ed were a couple!!

I'm going to guess that it's more than an infection and some sort of ancient demon possession type thing.

Watching this movie on cable with my family when I was 7 is one of my fondest memories. I haven't revisited it in over a decade

I want to say I first saw him in Failure to Launch, but then also I'd be admitting I watched that movie.

It Comes At Night looks so great.

I knew that Joel Edgerton was in it, but had no idea about Christopher Abbott. He had some really, really powerful scenes in James White.

This is right behind Get Out on my most anticipated list.

know what you're getting into - it's old school giallo, so it's high on style, low on substance, colorful and gory and nightmarish - it's a classic but it's also not necessarily for everyone.

I can't stand giallo. I've seen The Editor from a couple of years ago and it was enjoyable for how bad it was, but nothing more.

hvaen't seen that so i can't comment on how successful it was, there's definitely good and bad. i'd hesitate to judge the whole subgenre by one homage film though

It is just an homage, that's right.

To be honest, I've only either seen trailers or heard about giallo flicks, so I can't judge them completely.

yeah i would watch Suspiria and Kill, Baby, Kill and make a call from there. those are considered two of the high points/earliest influences of the genre

Suspiria is not a giallo. It's directed by Dario Argento, who's largely known for helping to shape the giallo genre, but Suspiria itself is not one. One of my favorite films though. Every frame of it could be hung on the wall as a work of art.

eh, i disagree. it's not the most traditional in that it's not a strictly natural dimestore paperback mystery about a serial killer deal, but enough characteristics align (exploitative violence, excessive gore, vibrant coloring, style over substance, significant soundtrack - plus narrative ticks of murder mystery, themes of paranoia, and isolation) that it's an appropriate term. there are certainly Argento films which don't qualify as giallo but i think suspiria is one which does

interestingly, the last movie besides Suspiria to feel as surreal without sacrificing its sense of place was Horns for me. which, doesn't make much sense, because i'm pretty sure that was a bad movie? i'm legit too scared to watch it for fear of it being ruined and leaving me with just one film that gives me that sense of disquieting presence.

I guess it's splitting hairs, but while I see the shared stylistic similarities, none of the key story elements are intact. It'd be like saying The Fog is a slasher because it's stylistically similar to Halloween.

Any way, I'm really curious to see what they do with the remake. The original story isn't much without the visuals, but it's impossible to replicate that style and feel genuine in a remake.

Yeah, understandable. I think the story beats of naturalistic giallo are fairly interchangeable with supernatural components without losing the heart of it, so that's where I'm coming from.

Forgot they're remaking it. There's no way that's gonna work, I feel like. What could it bring to the table? Consider how the original was filmed in everyone's natural language and then redubbed, contributing to a weird flow, or the iconic soundtrack. There's just no way to improve upon that legitimately, especially with today's Hollywood climate.
