Royce has been killing it for like 10 years, but no one ever seems to notice. I think he's by far one of the best rappers out there. Love how Em texted him too about the recent freestyles.

I listened to that "Look at Me" song and, I could be overlooking something, but his flow doesn't sound all that original? Like I feel like Drake has been using that kind of flow (whether he jacked it from someone else or not) dating back to like 2013

I mean Royce has technically been a geeat rapper forever, which makes his freestyles fun, but his music has never been all that good in my opinion. He never really managed to combine the two, though he probably would tell you otherwise (I know he said the crossover tracks on the second Slaughterhouse album prove his hit making abilities). PRhyme was pretty well received I guess but I don't remember it all that well.

I liked PRhyme. I thought there was gonna be a follow up?

I never believe any hip hop album will be released until I own it

Phryme was great and I do believe there will be a follow up. Bad Meets Evil was very good, imo. The Bar Exam mixtapes were outstanding. For some reason, his solo records are kind of all over the place although Death is Certain was one of my favorite rap albums of the 2000s and Success is Certain is very good too.

Layers had its moments but again, was kind of inconsistent. Lyrically, he's one of the best in the game.

Depends on what you look for in lyrics I guess, but he is certainly a great lyricist in a sense, he just never spoke to me

  14. Ya Royce has always been one of the best rappers, which is why I always look out for his freestyles, but he struggles to make actual songs/albums that are compelling to a wide audience. That said, I really liked this single from Layers.

So Migos are okay with him being gay, but don't think you can be gay and do molly or sell drugs?

I just don't think he's been exposed to the masses that much and he was pretty much blackballed from the music industry for most of the 2000s due to his beef with Dre and Em. I still feel like most people (outside of hiphop heads) don't really know who he is, despite releasing Bad Meets Evil with Em.

I actually really liked the Padded Room album and there were a few cuts here and there on ST and No Love Lost. Plus his Mood Muzik series was pretty good as well.

I haven't listened to anything by him in years though.

Thanks for mentioning this, I somehow missed it. It's really good. Wyclef is so fucking gifted it's crazy. And yeah most of the music on this album isn't rap, but everytime he does rap he still delivers. I think this album deserves more attention.

Seconding the thanks for mentioning the Wyclef album. It wasn't on my radar either but it's real good.

How can a Wyclef Jean album fly under the radar, our institutions are failing us

    I wouldn't call it mindblowing, but it's a solid B+ imo.
