Just read House of Penance. What an incredibly odd book.

Didn't think I'd be complaining about free stuff but I hate this promo marvel is doing right now with the free digital issues.

Every book that has them has the same 3 books. This wouldn't normally bother me because hey it's free right but I don't even get the damn digital version of the book I bought.

They stopped doing digital copies in books, DC picked it up instead

Just leave your wallet at home and take a ten dollar bill with you, lol. Then you're literally limited to ASB and maybe one other new issue.

    COMIX! Lots of 'em!

Jessica Jones was really meta, lol. Jessica had a conversation with some guy who claimed to be from another world and who knows that the Incursions of Hickman's New Avengers/Secret Wars happened. He killed his wife and drank her blood just to see what'd happen 'cause, in a world where Secret Wars can happen, nothing matters. Pretty wild, and pretty cool.

Black Widow was good, though it didn't really feel like the penultimate issue that it was. Samnee has said that this was always meant to be 12 issues, but the end has flowed kinda weird. Samnee took more of a lead on the writing/plot with this one, so maybe that's why? Still, his art on this title is absolute top-tier comics work, which makes it worth the ride.

Avengers by Waid and Del Mundo is so fantastic. I can't stress that enough. Everything's so weird and convoluted and utterly entertaining. This one was totally just Kang talking about his life, leading to a gang of Avengers from different eras showing up on the final pages with no explanation, lol. I'm guessing next issue will fill in the Avengers' side.

Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows is a perfect Spider-Man series. Conway has a perfect grasp on these characters (fitting considering his work on ASM decades ago), and Stegman's work is the best it's ever looked.

Hawkeye is also still a delight. Kelly Thompson has a perfect grasp on Kate Bishop. Nothing else really to say here that I haven't already said.

Speaking of Thompson, Jem: The Misfits is also a delight. St-Onge's art certainly helps a lot with that, but between this and Hawkeye (two rather different titles), Thompson is proving herself to be great at nailing character writing.

Good to be back with Paper Girls, especially after deciding to drop Saga. This series is totally wild and all over the place, but the gorgeous art and strong characters keep me totally engaged issue by issue.

Shade the Changing Girl, much like Paper Girls and Avengers, is totally out there but visually incredible and wonderfully creative. Apparently gorgeous absurdity is my thing lately? lol. Each issue of this series continues to have a strong emotional anchor, though, no matter how weird it gets.

Finally, Superman scratched the same superhero convoluted adventure itch that Avengers did, albeit with standard, serviceable art instead of anything visually impressive. Still, Superman continues to be my favorite DC title right now. I really hope the upcoming crossover with Action Comics doesn't ruin this series!

(I only had two more books in my pile, Ms Marvel and Green Lanterns, but I gotta take a break after so many issues, lol. Feels good to have so much to read, though, with so much good to say about them.)

I was just coming to this thread to ask if that stuff in Jessica Jones was from something, because it all sounded awesome.

Basically, Hickman's New Avengers starts with Black Panther discovering that another earth almost collided with ours before the mysterious Black Swan destroyed it. BP then spends the series with Reed Richards, Iron Man, Beast, Black Bolt, and Namor as they try to figure out why these universes are colliding and how to save ours. They even encounter a world with what's basically the Justice League. Throughout it all, they wrestle with what is and isn't on the table, including destroying other worlds. This is what eventually led to Secret Wars.

If you wanna read this, you should also read his Avengers series. They cross over early on in the Infinity event, and then basically become one combined series in Time Runs Out, which is what led into Secret Wars. All the Hickman Avengers stuff together approaches 100 issues, lol, but I personally think it's all fantastic.

I love multiverse stuff and I've spent so long with DC's multiverse it's really cool seeing how Marvel's differ. I keep hearing about Secret Wars and I've needed a way to get into the Avengers so this will be good for me.

Then sounds like you're perfectly primed for this! lol.

Heads up: When Time Runs Out happened, they only packaged Avengers and New Avengers together, as they should. However, Infinity was messier. The story ran through Avengers, New Avengers, and an Infinity miniseries. These issues, like Time Runs Out, are collected together, BUT there are also Avengers and New Avengers collections including only their respective issues. So, basically, you're gonna have to get the collected Infinity event and skip the individual Avengers and New Avengers trades that collect the same material separately.

I was planning on halting my comics/vinyl purchases with no job and all, but I just found out that my local shop is closing at the end of the month so literally everything is on sale. So if you guys know anyone in bands who needs some PR work done, please send them my way haha. Or literally any writing/website/social media work in general. Gotta pay for my comics!

I'm excited to finally finish Bendis' run on Avengers and get to the Hickman stuff. No idea when that'll be though.

I originally started with Hickman's Avengers and loved the first few issues but then got lost fast so I thought I'd backtrack and learn a bit more background first, ha.

I have a soft spot for Bone Claws Wolverine because that's where he was at when I was getting into comics as a kid.

Everyone X-Men fan in this thread should read the Fatal Attractions X-Men crossover from the early 90s. That's the event that really sucked me into comics. It's imo the best Professor X/Magneto showdown and you also get to see how Wolverine ends up with the bone claws.
